There it goes, way out Yonder!

I figured I should be the first person to actually put it to use. Yonder Alonso went 2-5 last night with a double and a walk off opposite field HR off of a left hander in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The Reds first round draft pick raised his overall line in Hawaii to .327/.436/.541 for a .977 OPS in a league that is known as a pitchers league. The walk off HR was his 4th of the season which is tied for 4th place in the league.

His .977 OPS leads the Hawaiian Winter League for those who qualify. He has had some struggles against left handed pitchers in Hawaii though, as he has a .793 OPS against them. Against right handed pitchers he is having a much strong season with a 1.093 OPS.

The Marty Brennamen stats of the day:

Alonso with RISP – .400/.486/.633

Alonso with Runners on – .396/.491/.646

I think this is what we call a good professional debut by a first round draft pick? Honestly, its the best debut by a Reds draft pick since Ryan Wagner. I think Yonder will wind up having a better career than Wagner though who really fell apart after his first season when he couldn’t throw strikes.
