Dayton lost 5-0. Box Score
- Ryan Wright went 1-3 with a walk.
- Juan Silva went 1-3.
- Daniel Tuttle allowed 3 runs in 6 innings with a walk and a strikeout.
- Dan Jensen threw a scoreless inning of work.
Game notes
The Dragons offense simply wasn’t able to get going against the Captains, racking up just 4 hits. Juan Perez and Juan Silva were among those with hits and each extended their hitting streak to 6 games. Daniel Tuttle made a bad pitch to super prospect Francisco Lindor who hit a 2 run home run in the first inning. From that point forward he was very strong. Tuttle has a 2.55 ERA through his first three starts of the year. The game tonight will be available online for everyone to watch for free. The link can be found below in the game preview.

Does this mean possible promotion to AA?
“Bakersfield Blaze placed SS Billy Hamilton on the temporarily inactive list.”
You don’t get promoted by being put on an inactive list…..what the heck happened to him?
Read that he is on the bereavement list. The story didn’t say who had passed.
Tough night for the youngsters.Today is another day. Hopefully will win on all levels today.
By the way my Derby pick is Union Rags. Have a great Derby day.
Doug, I know you were a little concerned that Cueto wouldn’t beable to duplicate his numbers from last year but I got to say early indicatios are looking good.He was just over 100 pitches lastnight and still hitting 94 mph. He really seems to have figured it out.If we can get Leake and Latos rolling and a few of the guys get more in line with the back of their baseball cards offensively we can go on a run. 2.5 games out with how we have hit is a blessing. The bull pen has been lights out.If I’m Walt I’m not in panic mode but I am keeping my ears to the ground for a middle of the order bat.Something like the Dodgers picking up Manny mid year a few years back would do. LOL
I still don’t think Cueto comes close to repeating his numbers from last year. I do like that his walks are down quite a bit, that is a good thing. He still doesn’t miss enough bats to continue this though. He is doing things that Greg Maddux wasn’t able to do and he is not Greg Maddux. Pitchers can control their BABIP to a very small extent, but they need to be able to hit their spots precisely to do it. Cueto isn’t that kind of guy (99% of pitchers aren’t that kind of guy). Cueto is a good pitcher, but he isn’t a great pitcher. He is on a run that is being influenced by great defense behind him and plenty of luck.
Doug,I’ll have to defer to your wisdom on this one. Haven’t really done the numbers comparisons you have. It was nice seeing him kick it up to 94 in the 9th inning. I don’t think he will stay at 1.31 and be undefeated but he really looks like he has a better idea how to pitch. Combine that with a very nice arm and I think he is a top of the rotation guy. I would like a staff of Cueto’s. Hard worker,Good fielder, Holds runners on,handles the bat well. If he stays healthy and they score for him 17-18 wins is very doable.
The General and Waldrop are ice cold
I know it’s the Cal League, but Lutz is mashing. Even if you discount .050 from his slugging he still has an IsoP of near .300
Yeah, those two are cold right now. They aren’t the only ones, but each was probably due for a bit of a slump after the hot streaks they put together earlier.
Lutz has some crazy power. I still can’t believe some of the balls he hit in the spring showcase batting practice.
If Lutz’ power is that good and we elect to hang on to him and play him in LF, we will need a rh bat in the 4 or 5 spot, don’t you think? Short term (rest of 2012/2013) I cannot see who that guy is. In the spirit of RML, looking at Minor League guys, for 2014 I also cannot see who fits that profile AND plays LF, 3B, or perhaps CF. There is Meso, of course, who may end up a #4/5 hitter. Soto is more intriguing by the day, but is a 1B/DH type. YRod with easy power still still quite young … Any thoughts?
Right now, probably. Lutz is still showing huge splits with lefties/righties. I would still like to see Mesoraco hitting 5th behind Votto and Bruce. But since we can’t get him into the line up more than 3 times a week, that has to be on hold. Soto doesn’t have anyhwere to play. Rodriguez is so far away right now that he can’t be counted on. There isn’t a right hander in the system right now that can be that kind of guy at any time soon.
Lutz is LH. However he has very good bat speed and huge raw power.
It’d be a while, but I really like Courtney Hawkins if he is there at 14 in the June draft. Most raw power of the HS bats, hits RH, huge arm, BA even thinks he might be able to stay in CF. Big time athlete, did a backflip at a recent showcase showing off for scouts, and his hit tool is strong.
Since Lutz is still at least a couple of years away who knows what the needs will be at that time. If it were right now there are only two lefties in the line-up so I could see him fit well in the 7-hole.
I am an old pitching guy and pride myself on know mechanics and teaching that pitching is not done in one way. I watched two games last night on milb. One of which was a Yankee affiliate and the other was Pensacola Just a few comments , looks like Greene is out of his mini slump, second Crabbe looked a mess mechanically. And three I feel for the lefty Tanner, he looked rusty and then I went on his stat page and this young man has not pitched in over a week, the life of a relief pitcher, not very fare and I again stress player development. Let’s be honest , a guy does not throw for 8 days and what do u expect of him. Guys if you are at all listening. Please be concerned with player development , work these guys film these guys and study these guys.
I think Tanner is a roster filler.
The other option of course is to continue the pipeline of Alonson/Grandahl/Boxburger, Meso/Cozart/Frazier, etc, for the next Latos type deal. That would likely mean some of the Didi/HRod/LeMarre/Vidal/Lutz/Wright group flipped for that RH power bat at 3B, LF, or CF — I am thinking Hamilton is now less available.
Sulburan threw a gem tonight. If he can just consisently cut down those walks, the he has a bright future. Games like tonight vs his last start shows you the two sides of his game.
Why Lotzkar to AA over Cingrani?
And why Muhammed, and Kiel to A- over a starter like Stephenson/Cisco/Johnson/Guillon/Mugarian? What are they going to do Monday, which is French’s turn in the rotation?
