Is the General for real?!
He isn’t for fake.
I hope DD is still on this team after the deadline because I think he is their shortstop of the future. I would trade Cozart when they believe DD is ready. I know a lot of people around here like Cozart and so do I but I just am being realistic. He is about to turn 27 and is pretty much in his prime so he is not going to get much better. Hamilton is not a shortstop at the big leagues so he will have to find another spot.
I’d give the General next year in AAA. Let him improve his plate discipline and round out his game. If he lights up AAA next year and Cozart plays well, we’ll have a helluva trade chip in either one.
I think the trade deadline of 2013 will be a very interesting time for the Reds in regards to Stubbs/Hamilton and what is going on in CF and in regards to Cozart/Gregarious and what is going on at SS.
Very, very funny Doug. Hopefully, the FO saw this coming with Didi. He is pushing his way on to the roster or he is going to be a rather large trading chip. I hope they keep him.
I am sure the saw some of it. Within the organization they have been talking about his power being in there for years.
Did I miss YRod struggling a bit, or was he in Dayton previously this year? Seemed like since he got back he had been absolutely killing the ball, but his line wouldn’t seem to reflect that per se.
His first 10 games or so in Dayton weren’t so good. Since then he has been much better, but that initial week and a half didn’t go so hot.
He started the season at bakersfield.
I would offer Leake, Heisey and Hannigan for Shields. The Reds pitching has been great, but having another experienced stud would be huge come October.
I can’t see that happening. Mesoraco isn’t even allowed to catch Cueto or Arroyo, so they aren’t going to trade Hanigan.
Also the TB GM would laugh in your face.
Honestly I watch pretty much watch every game and was a college pitcher and I don’t see the point. The Reds have a chance to play for more than just getting in and I believe they need a pitcher that has Shields ability and experience. Tampa needs some help offensively and a catcher. Dusty deserves much credit, but his handling of the catchers continues to perplex me.
Trading for an average to less than perfect leadoff guy won’t be the diffrence maker come October. The pitching staff has been spectacluar but still lacks an October guy in my opinion.
If we could get Choo from the Indianas I would do it. Other than that I would roll with what we have.
I think with Stubbs playing well for 1 week that has ruined any chance of us making a deal for anyone more than a bench player. Its like they will forget that he has been horrible the past season and a half! Oh and we still dont have a leadoff hitter.
I couldn’t agree more. I’m thrilled Stubbs has played well if only to increase our leverage.
It is amazing to see guys step it up when their job is on the line. I hope that Walt sees through it. ‘Stubby’ has shown us this all before. Anybody that thinks he is finally getting it is ignoring years of history that says otherwise.
No, but Stubbs in years past was actually an average Major Leaguer.
With how stubbs is hitting for power lately, I was wondering if they could have finally just let him be and hit how he feels most comfortable. In my opinion he has always been a power hitter with speed, not a speed guy with power. Stubbs has all the talent he needs to be a great CF, we just need to stop screwing with him and let him be. Wasn’t Eric Davis powerful and fast too? Don’t believe we decided he had to bat leadoff…
Dayton lost with very poor fundamentals again. Juan Perez and Nick O’Shea just ran them out of innings getting picked off or caught between bases. These are the same mistakes the team was making in April. Should not be happening at the end of July (or even high school for that matter).
Stephenson note: Yovan Gonzalez was not able to catch over the weekend because he hurt his hand catching Stephenson on Thursday.
Met and stood next to Stephenson in street clothes, he is a specimen.
Anxiously awaiting Doug’s review/analysis of Stephenson’s outing at Dayton. Gonna be good for sure.
It is set to publish at noon.
In some ways, the winning streak might lull the brass into a false sense of security, that they feel comfortable going into the playoffs with what they have. IMO, that would be a huge mistake. They really need to address our .693 OPS center fielder, and the need for a LH bat off the bench. The NL hasn’t been this winnable in years.

I guess thats why they pay Walt the big bucks. Will be interesting to see, what, if any moves, are made over the next 30+ hours.
Yes, yes, yes. I can’t recall the last time I saw the NL this weak.
Has there been any speculation as to why Dusty has not been extended yet? Did’t Owner Bob say it was a priority right after they signed Phillips? Could Walt want his own man next year?
Is Francona still available? If so, that could be a reason why. If the Reds win the world series, then Dusty is back if he wants to be, if not, they may be tempted to go after a manager who has won it all.
Walt has wanted his own man since day 1, but Bob loves Dusty.
Given how Mejias-Brean is lighting up the Pioneer league, and is suposed to be a plus defender, I think he may skip Dayton the same way Byrson Smith did this year. He’ll be turning 22 right around opening day next year and Junior Arias isn’t exactly doing much in Low A this year to block him.
