Hopefully I have figured out my video problem on the computer. Last night, for the first time in over a week, I was able to export an edited video without an error. Maybe it was just lucky, but hopefully not. This week should see plenty of new videos up on youtube and the site, starting tomorrow.
I’m assuming Langfield will start next year and they are just limiting his innings since he pitched a full college year.
I have heard the same thing on Langfield. Probably here, now that i think of it.
Doug thanks for the brief updates on the AZ kids. It is hard to relate to these guys as so many arrive with little information let alone the fanfare of draftees.
Jackson Stephens is having a nice season — I have read he doesn’t have much more than high 80′s velocity but he seems to be showing (something) more.
He was the Friday night starter in college. Think he threw about 80 innings in college..
Doug, you got a scouting report on Felix Perez. Having a very nice year. What kind of defender is he?
I think he is probably a 4th/5th outfielder. He can play all 3 spots, though center field is mostly ‘in a pinch’ situation. Solid defender, offensively he isn’t going to hit for much power or walk much, but he can make contact at a good rate and he has a little bit of speed.
Do you think Soto has turned a corner? It seems like his walks are up lately, and obviously he is hitting better. Of course, he finished strong last year too.
I don’t know if he has turned a corner yet, but the vastly improved plate discipline is an awesome sign.
Wouldn’t count on either Muller or Hunt making the transition to a pitcher. Neither guy (as a pitcher) shows that much velocity, but they did show good control surprisingly. However, Griffin has a pretty good arm. He just needs to be able to locate a bit better and develop his offspeed pitches. He has a chance as a reliever, but time isn’t on his side.
On a side note: Duran’s night is reason enough to keep believing in him as a prospect, even though it’s frustrating as hell. Guy looks silly on a lot of pitches, flailing at a lot of balls outside the zone, and his defense isn’t very good yet….but, the power in that bat is ‘other-worldly’.
His HR last night was one of the longest, highest-arching balls I have ever seen hit. The ball literally just missed hitting the lights beyond the Left-Center wall, appearing to still be ascending when they passed the lights. For reference, the lights are probably 100-ft high, at least 50-feet beyond the wall which sits at around 340-ft in LF. At least a 450′ bomb, but I’d be willing to bet it was well beyond 500′ from home plate.
Just to impress upon the readers how impressive a feat this was, Eric Davis was in attendance and had the same look of jaw-dropping awe, as everyone else in attendance did, after it was hit. It was a very surreal moment, because after the ball was hit, hardly any applause was heard as everyone was still trying to size up exactly where the ball could have disappeared to beyond the stadium. Very cool moment. Makes up for the rest of the disaster that Duran’s ABs were, let alone the team as a whole.
Not sure anyone other than Duran is much of a prospect going forward. Perhaps Ryan Wright has a chance, as he does have a good bit of pop, but the rest of the position players are likely org. filler in my mind.
Your first paragraph about Duran could have been written about Wily Mo Pena or Adam Dunn.
But if you are familiar with Dragons Stadium, Duran hit one of the Dragons on the top of the Scoreboard during batting practice last year.
Eric Davis said Juan Duran was the most improved player over the season in Dayton last year, so his analysis isn’t always the best.
Duran could have been the most improved player last season. That doesn’t mean he was the best, but that he made the most progress. He is still an incredibly raw hitter.
Ok.. a powerful hit it was. Do you think the silence was about AWE? Could it have been about “it’s about time”? Whatever the case it was one powerful hit. Then he had the defensive error. Most of the fans are very frustrated. One reason is that he’s always the LAST player to take the field. Maybe this is about being young. Hopefully this is tide turning times for Duran and for Bakersfield.
Great start for Guillon.
I was able to listen to the 6th inning while driving home this afternoon. Any mention of how hard he was throwing in the game? I plan to go see him the next time he starts in Dayton.
Guillon: 3 hits no runs over 6 innings 2 bb 5 K – solid debut for Dayton.
Scoring change: No SB for Hamilton. On double steal, Billy stole 3rd & but Fellhauer thrown out at 2B. Thought he had #144, but official scorer ruled no.
Cisco had another STRONG start for Billings.. Just think if everything fell the right way next year Dayton could have Guillon,Stephenson,
Cisco,Langfield and possibly Garrett….
like that Cards and Pirates are into the 18th inning against each other, I hope they have to play another nine, should mess up their bullpens for a week.
Maybe Walt and company didn’t come up with a goose egg for a bench player at the deadline. Paul seems to be filling a void thus far. Hopefully, it will continue.
