Mike MacDougal threw a hitless inning with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Jose Diaz allowed an unearned run in a hitless inning with two walks. Jose Arredondo threw a hitless inning with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Justin Freeman threw a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts. Game Notes Daniel Corcino struggled with his control as he walked 6 batters in 3 innings with 3 strikeouts. He threw 81 pitches, 41 strikes and 40 balls. The Bats only had 2 hits in the game and struck out 14 times, though they did walk 6 times. Billy Hamilton continued to struggle, hitting .103/.186/.103 in his last 10 games. Pensacola was postponed. Bakersfield won 9-7. Box Score Kyle Waldrop went 2-5 with a run. Juan Duran went 2-5 with a solo HR (1) and 2 runs. Yorman Rodriguez went 4-5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI and 2 runs. Juan Silverio went 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs. Dominic D’Anna went 2-4 with a HR (2) and 3 RBI. Joe Terry went 1-4 with an RBI. El’Hajj Muhammad threw a hitless inning with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Brian Pearl threw a perfect inning with a strikeout. Game Notes The Blaze offense pounded out 16 hits in the game and they seemed to have caught fire. The #3-7 hitters all had 2 or more hits. Yorman Rodriguez put together a nice game in the launching pad that is Lancaster with four hits to lead the way. Tanner Robles had 9 strikeouts in 4 innings, but he also walked 5 and allowed 5 runs before exiting the game. Dayton lost 5-2. Box Score Robert Ramirez went 1-4 with a double. Jesse Winker went 3-4 with a double and a run. Seth Mejias-Brean went 1-3 with a walk, RBI and a run. Jeff Gelalich went 2-4 with a double. Sal Romano suffered 3 unearned runs in 4.1 innings with 2 walks and a strikeout. Jesus Adames allowed a run in 2.1 innings with 2 strikeouts. Pedro Diaz threw 2.1 innings with an earned run in a walk and a strikeout. Game Notes The second inning was a mess for the Dragons. Sal Romano induced 8 groundballs in the inning by the time the inning was over thanks to three errors in the inning and an infield single. Bowling Green scored three runs in the inning and that was all they needed as the offensive struggles continued for Dayton. Jesse Winker had three hits in the game. Two were infield singles and the other was an opposite field double. I was at the game, so there will be plenty of video coming out of the players over the next week or two. The game tonight will be available online for free at this link. 4/20 Game Preview Team 1st half 2nd half Time Probable Box Score Listen Live Watch Live Louisville 8-7 N/A 2:05pm Reineke Here Here Here Pensacola 6-8 N/A 7:05pm Dennick Here Here Here Bakersfield 5-11 N/A 10:00pm Contreras Here Here N/A Dayton 4-9 N/A 7:00pm Stephenson Here Here Here 28 Responses mort April 20, 2013 Hey Doug. It looks like you accidentally have the Bats boxscore linked to Bakersfield. Doug Gray April 20, 2013 Fixed! Thanks for the heads up. Now if only I had seen it before 11:30…. Stock April 20, 2013 Here is the Bakersfield link. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2013_04_19_bakafa_lncafa_1&t=g_box&sid=t423 sultan of swaff April 20, 2013 Doug, does Galelich look like he’s on the fast track to high A? I’d imagine with his hot start and his age, they’d probably push him a little. What a bad couple of weeks for Corcino. Hopefully it’s just the cold weather, cuz at this rate the Reds entire staff could go down and he still wouldn’t warrant a callup. The Duke April 20, 2013 They may want to push Reynoso up to A ball as well. If he isn’t deemed ready, I imagine Dan Pigott would get moved up instead. The Duke April 20, 2013 YRod now hitting .279/.353/.508. Yes, the Cal league is a hitters paradise, but you have to at least be encouraged by this start. .325/.372/.575 over his last 10 games with 4 2B and 2 HR. I think it would behoove him to play the entire year in Bakersfield. He could really use a big year from a mental standpoint. He still has 20 K in 16 games, but that at least comes with 5 BB. Doug Gray April 20, 2013 The good thing to see is when he is getting the bat to the ball, he is doing damage. The strikeout rate is still way to high though. Norwood Nate April 20, 2013 A much more encouraging start for him this year. It would be nice to see him there this year and put up some really good stats. He’s still young. Doug Gray April 20, 2013 I took this picture of Sal Romano last night at the game in the 3rd inning during the brief period of time that it was raining. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikerivers30/8666038054/in/photostream I wound up with 190 clips (pitches thrown or pitches seen). Probably going to get that many tonight as well. The bad news is that I am going to have to watch each clip and rename it before I can start editing…. that part isn’t nearly as fun as going back and watching them all for scouting purposes. DaveCT April 20, 2013 Big dude. DaveCT April 20, 2013 I am hoping a middle infielder can step up to put himself into the 2B picture for the post BP era HRod doesn’t have the defense there it seems, Others haven’t really had the offsense, at least at higher levels.– most like Green, Lohman, even Ryan Wright seem like utility guys. The Duke April 20, 2013 BP is here through 2017, so not that much if a rush. Our next 2B may be playing in high school right now. Jim t April 20, 2013 Went to the reds game today. Nice to see Joey get a little more aggressive at plate. Was looking to swing much earlier in count. Choo Is amazing. On base 6 times today. That is a months work for Stubbs. Arroyo just keeps getting outs. If you really want to see a guy pitch not over power hitters watch him. Guy has a lot of innings left in that arm. Will be interesting to see if they make a effort to resign him. Jim t April 20, 2013 Looks like Mez will be getting his shot. He swung the bat well today and Bronson pitched a good game with him behind the plate. BABull April 20, 2013 I hope Mez does get his shot. He is a young guy that is going to struggle from time to time. He needs to play, either in Cinci or L-Ville, in order to work out the kinks. If Ryan could hit, it might still not be Mez’s time. I hope Ryan gets better soon but, I believe the majority of the playing time should be Mez’s going forward. Jim t April 20, 2013 Ryan is injured. That is why it’s Mez’s time. If he performs he’ll get the time. It’s up to him. He had 3 good plate appearances today and looked good behind the plate. He needs to take the job from Ryan not have it handed to him. Ryan wasn’t hitting and now he’s injured. The door is open. Terry M April 20, 2013 Hard “to take the job” when you only get to play in one of five days..Mes hits the ball hard when he makes contact.. Jim t April 20, 2013 Hard to take the job when you play behind a very good catcher. People seem to miss that point. BABull April 20, 2013 I,honestly, thought that with the experience of last year coupled with the great spring he had, he did “take the job”. Ryan struggles to open the season (at the plate) and yet Mez sits. Ryan continues to struggle and Mez continues to sit. My take from the Sheldon blog concerning Ryan’s thumb is that Dusty waited till the last moment to scratch Ryan. If Ryan said he could go I believe Dusty would have gone with him injured thumb or not. Tell me, how does Mez go from 40% catching duties last year to 20% this year? Jim t April 20, 2013 Your speculating is silly. No way he wins the job in the spring that is even sillier. BABull April 21, 2013 Why is my ‘speculating’ silly, pray tell? What am I ‘speculating’ about? This quote from Sheldon doesn’t leave any room for debate: “Looks like Ryan Hanigan’s thumb isn’t doing well today. Dusty Baker waited longer than usual before writing out the lineup because he wanted to see how Hanigan was feeling. Devin Mesoraco starts instead… it’s a rarity for Bronson Arroyo to not have Hanigan as a battery mate.”…Not only didn’t he win the job in the spring, his role for this year declined over last. After his spring, I would hazard a guess and say that Devin wouldn’t consider this so-called speculating ‘silly’. I find that when the question is one that doesn’t want to be answered that the questioner is attacked. In this case the best you can tag me with is ‘silly’. Must be late…get some rest. Try again in the morning. Jim t April 21, 2013 He didn’t win the job in spring because it wasn’t up for grabs. He was outplayed by Hanigan by a huge margin last year. That is a season not a few meaningless spring games. Saying he should have been given the job after ST training is silly. Of course Ryan would have started and caught Arroyo he is the starting catcher and if able to play he would have. Is that hard to understand? Ryan performed like one of the top 5 catchers in the league last year on a team that won 97 games and the division title. BABull April 21, 2013 It appears that what WAS ‘up for grabs’ was Devin’s playing time. After his efforts in the meaningless spring games he was deemed unworthy to even keep his workload from last year. Ryan ‘outplayed’ Devin last year due in no small measure to the fact that he got more consistent time. We are 18 games into the non-meaningless season and Ryan has played horribly (on offense). Come to find out, he has been dealing with a thumb boo-boo for awhile now yet he has still been penciled-in. What does it take to get a chance? For all the talk about Dusty being a players manager, I don’t see it here. Jim t April 21, 2013 Your speculating. He out played him because he performed better. Your assertion that if he would have gotten more time is your opinon. He has gotten a chance. One many Young players have taken advantage of. So far in his limited amount of playing time he has failed to show he is ready for more reps. Hopefully now he will. What Mez proved this ST. Was he was worthy of more opportunity. Hence they released olivo. Terry M April 21, 2013 I have never posted that Han isn’t a good catcher. I think he is VERY important to this team. I just think that Mes. needs to catch more than one of five starts especially when an injury occurs he will have had more experience with other sarters… Jimmer April 20, 2013 Hanigan and Mesoraco would both benefit from a true 50/50 split. Keeps both fresh and at the top of their game. Donny April 20, 2013 At the game today three thoughts: Donny April 20, 2013 1. Pitching was awesome 2. Why was Cozart bunting in the first place. It made no sense. 3. Leader off hitter looks real good.
