While it was posted on other posts in the comments section, for those that missed it, the Arizona Fall League rosters are out. Here are the guys that the Reds are sending along with their stats coming into Tuesday:
Travis Mattair and Drew Hayes will be retuning to the Arizona Fall League. Mattair saw limited time there last season as a replacement for an injured Donald Lutz late in the season. Chad Rogers heading out there is a bit of a surprise given his 133 innings, though I expect to see him in a relief role. Michael Lorenzen is also a surprise, but at the same time he may not be. It wouldn’t be completely surprising to see him get some time in the field as well as off of the mound. Jamie Walczak has been very strong out of the bullpen this season for Pensacola (and over a limited number of innings for Bakersfield).
Yorman Rodriguez and Ryan LaMarre will be outfielders that represent the Reds. LaMarre, as noted yesterday, has really turned his season around. Rodriguez has really progressed over the last year and while he has played sparingly in the Venezuelan Liga Paralela in the past, this is a big step up in competition and will give him more playing time than he has had in past seasons. Mattair, like LaMarre, has really turned his season around as well after a rough start to the year. Tucker Barnhart is also heading out to Arizona, which is a little bit surprising given that he is a catcher and has had a long season behind the plate…. but someone has to catch in the league and unless Pensacola makes the playoffs he will finish with just under 100 games played.
The Dayton Dragons were off yesterday but they had news flying all over the place. First, Amir Garrett has left the team to head to school where he will play basketball for Cal State Northridge. Taking his place in the rotation and just up from Billings is Ben Lively, who will start on Friday (which will be on Milb.tv – and on the road). There is only one full trip through the rotation left this season unless the Dragons make the playoffs. They are currently 2.5 games out of the wildcard spot and begin a 3-game series against the team they trail today.
Pensacola also made a roster move yesterday as Loek Van Mil was promoted to Louisville for the last week of the season. It is a bit surprising that this didn’t happen earlier given his arm and that he is a free agent after the season. He threw 1.1 shutout innings with the Bats last night.
Billings has a new reliever in the fold with Chad Jones making it to Billings yesterday. He has unsurprisingly struggled with his control at times this season. Getting him to Billings will provide a chance to get some more innings in since their season lasts longer than the Arizona teams do.
Billy Hamilton was named as an International League Postseason All-Star. Hamilton was hitting .257/.310/.346 on the season with 73 steals when the team was announced.
