The Reds announced who they would call up in September, along with calling up Zach Duke. To make room for Duke on the 40-man roster, they DFA’d Justin Freeman who has been injured for most of the season. The reds announced that these players will be called up in September: Billy Hamilton (he will require a roster move being made), Henry Rodriguez, Neftali Soto, Corky Miller, Curtis Partch and Derrick Robinson. I imagine that they will also bring up Nick Christiani, who was sent down to Louisville to make room for Duke on the 25-man roster.
With the Reds in a race for the division I doubt any of these guys get more than a handful of at bats or innings out of the bullpen. Partch and Hamilton seem like the two who could get the most playing time, though in different roles. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Hamilton pinch run at least 10 times down the stretch and Partch probably finds himself back in the long relief role which could lead to more than a few innings. Or he may just not be used for a month, which happened to him earlier this year with the Reds.
