Last night in the Arizona Fall League Michael Lorenzen got his second start of the season. He threw 4 innings with a walk and a strikeout while allowing 3 earned runs (and 1 unearned run). He threw 59 pitches with 34 strikes while getting 6 groundouts and a flyout. Jamie Walczak pitched in relief and threw a perfect inning with a strikeout. Chad Rogers finished the game for Glendale with 1.1 shutout innings with 2 strikeouts. On the offensive side of things Yorman Rodriguez went 0-4. Travis Mattair went 1-3 with a walk and a run. Tucker Barnhart went 1-3 with a double and a walk. Barnhart also threw out 2 attempted base stealers.
Down in Venezuela Felix Perez went 0-4 for Aguilas del Zulia.
Baseball America released their 2013 Draft Report Cards: First Impressions article today. They basically just list the top 5 in different categories. Chad Jones, who the Reds drafted in the 9th round is listed as having the best human interest story. Michael Lorenzen is listed as being the closest player to the Majors. Surprising to me was that Phillip Ervin wasn’t anywhere to be found on the lists despite his outstanding debut.
MiLB.com released their Reds organizational All-Stars today. The biggest surprise on the list was probably Miguel Mendez, who played second base in the Dominican Summer League. There are notes on each player who made the list, so go give it a read and get a little more information on some of the guys who are lesser known.
