MK March 10, 2014 Not being on the 40-man I just don’t see where he fits. Unless Hannahan can’t play and an be put on 60 day DL but then you would need a corner infielder. Hannahan and Schumaker are lefties on bench. Heisey and someone to be determined are the righties. Pena is the switch hitter Even that being said Hannahan 9 games, Phillips 5, and Frazier have very little experience at shortstop in the big leagues. So somebody on the team besides Cozart needs to play shortstop and or corner infield. I think Bernadino is around in case Hamilton is a flop or injured. Alan Horn March 10, 2014 With the start Heisey has had this spring and with Ludwick coming out of the gate slowly, I wonder if Heisey might see significant time in LF. If Bernadino keeps it up, I would DL Hannahan and place him on the roster. If worse comes to worse, I would cut Hannahan and eat some pride and money. We are in this to win(I hope). Injury or not, Hannahan has done nothing to merit a roster spot. Likewise, the jury should be out on Ludwick. Doug Gray March 10, 2014 I can think of 13,000,000 reasons why Ryan Ludwick is going to be the starting left fielder to begin the season. That is how many dollars they owe him (at least – if they keep him for 2015, tack on another 4.5M). Alan Horn March 10, 2014 How long do you think they will go with him if he doesn’t hit? MK March 10, 2014 Mid-June for Ludwick. That is when he started hitting in 2012. They would have to eat $3 million on Hannahan. Can’t see that happening. Moses March 11, 2014 it’s amazing that these teams, mostly owned by successful businesspeople, do not understand the concept of a sunk cost. Ludwick and Heisey and just about everyone else not on an incentive-laden contract are going to get paid the same amount of money whether they start or never play. So they should forget about the salaries and play the best players.
