Last night/early this morning we found out that the Cincinnati Reds had promoted right handed starting pitcher Tony Santillan from Billings to Dayton. We also found out that the organization had promoted second baseman Shed Long from Dayton to Daytona. That came a day after infielder/outfielder Reydel Medina was also promoted from the Dragons to the Tortugas.

On Wednesday afternoon the roster moves kept on coming in the Reds farm system. The Billings Mustangs also saw right handed pitcher Alex Webb promoted to the Dayton Dragons. He will be joined in the promotion by outfielder Daniel Sweet.

Webb was the Cincinnati Reds 9th round selection in this past draft. He’s been quite successful with the Mustangs since he’s been eligible to play. He has allowed just one run in 11.1 innings out of the bullpen, walking only two batters and he’s struck out nine. The righty has thrown multiple innings in four of his five appearances, with his last one coming on Sunday when he threw 4.0 shutout innings against Grand Junction.

Daniel Sweet, like Webb, has been outstanding since being drafted for the Billings Mustangs. The 29th rounder has been crushing the baseball in the Pioneer League. The switch hitter has had 92 plate appearances with a .333/.484/.565 line. He’s also walked more times than he has struck out, with 20 walks and 16 strikeouts. Sweet has hit three doubles, an impressive five triples and one home run over his 24 games. To say he’s gotten out to a good start in his professional career would be a massive understatement.

There have also been a few moves of players to the disabled lists. In Dayton right handed pitcher Jordan Ramsey was placed on the disabled list. Infielder Blake Butler was placed on the disabled list in Daytona, retroactive to Monday the 25th with a rib injury (I’m assuming it’s his ribs, not an injury from eating a slab of ribs – though that would be an outstanding story).

Also on the transaction list was an international signing of an outfielder Axel Alexio.

Wonder if Butler’s was a fight injury, I know Boulware got stitches.

Axel Alexio’s name sounds like he should be a Bond villain.
