Ariel Hernandez called up; Rookie Davis rehabbing Doug Gray July 5, 2017 5 Comments The Cincinnati Reds have called up right handed reliever Ariel Hernandez from Triple-A Louisville. He’s taking the place on the roster of Devin Mesoraco, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain. Hernandez had spent about two weeks with the Reds at the end of June before being optioned to Triple-A. He also saw action in one game with the Reds in April. The 25-year-old has been dominant regardless of where he’s pitched this year. In Double-A with Pensacola he posted a 2.18 ERA in 33.0 innings. With Triple-A he only pitched in one game, but threw 1.2 shutout innings for the Bats. In Cincinnati he threw 9.0 innings and allowed two runs. He’s struck out 52 batters with 25 walks in 44.2 innings across three different levels. Rookie Davis to rehab with Pensacola After making a few starts with the Arizona League Reds, Rookie Davis is set to make his next rehab start in Double-A Pensacola tonight. In Arizona the right hander allowed two earned runs in 9.1 innings over two starts with 10 strikeouts. He’s been working his way back after missing just over a month with a back issue. After beginning the season in the big league rotation he was optioned to Triple-A during the second week of May. He would only make two starts for Louisville, leaving the second game after just 3.0 innings and would be placed on the disabled list. That was on May 19th. 5 Responses Steve July 5, 2017 Can Davis crack the Louisville starting rotation even when healthy? With Romano going up tomorrow, Louisville still has Garrett, Mahle, Reed, Stephens and Stephenson as the starters. Good problem to have. McGuire and Ross pitching well in Pensacola too. Longhi looks to be a bench piece in Pensacola as he has not even got an AB since being acquired. Thought that he would at least be a rotation player at first and corner OF positions. Reynoso soon to rejoin the Wahoos and Chavez should be sent to Billings. Pensacola should be very competitive in the second half. The Duke July 6, 2017 It’s only been a few days, they might just be letting Longhi settle in a bit. Davis seems primed to be a 1 inning power reliever in my opinion, but I bet they try to start him again. His breaking ball might play up a bit if he could just focus on that and fastball control. Steve July 5, 2017 Doug, is Juan Perez ready to come off the DL soon? He’s no longer on the AZL roster where he was rehabbing. Hope he didn’t get injured again as he has not played yet in July. Steve July 5, 2017 Interesting to note that Friedl has moved to the bottom of the Tortugas lineup. Don’t understand wanting to give Butler more ABs than Friedl. Steve July 5, 2017 Good to see that Webb is on a rehab assignment in Arizona. Any info on Olson or Cox? McKirahan has also disappeared off of the AZL roster. He was rehabbing there and pitched an inning yesterday. Got injured in that appearance? Do you see Kolozsvary in Arizona or Billings?
