Which minor league affiliates will play in the playoffs? Pensacola and Dayton?

    • Doug Gray

Yes. Billings is 2 games back with 6 to play. The next two games are very important as they are against Great Falls, who they are trailing by 2 games (also trailing Missoula by 2, but Missoula won the first half, so trailing them means nothing). With how the Pioneer League works, though, if Missoula wins both halves, the playoff spot would go to the team with the best overall record from that division in the entire season. Right now, that would be Billings over Great Falls, but only by 1.5 games. If Missoula is one of the teams that tie, but it’s only a 2-way tie, then the spot goes to the other team that’s tied. If the Mustangs and Great Falls were to tie, and Missoula wasn’t also tied, then the head-to-head record for the entire season comes into play. Right now, Great Falls leads the season series 7-6.

Doug is garretts velo up? I keep asking this question and you’ve never answered it. They said he was 92-97 hitting 96 in the 7th

    • Doug Gray

I don’t know if I’ve just continuously missed it, or you missed my response – I know I’ve mentioned it being up in the last month or so, somewhere. But yes, he’s definitely throwing significantly harder right now than he was in the first half of the season. By several MPH.

      • RedsKoolAidDrinker

What do you attribute that to, Doug? Wasn’t ever truly healthy til now?

      • Doug Gray

I don’t know – but it was weird when he was throwing 90-91 early this year. While 90 at the bottom was never really out of whack, that he wasn’t throwing 94 half of the time was. And we didn’t see that for months this season. Turns out, eventually, that we found out that his hip was bothering him and he kept quiet about it.

So, while I don’t know anything at all about the situation, the evidence certainly suggests he hasn’t been fully healthy for a while this year.

All Reds minor league affiliates won today. I think it has only happened one other time this season (that I caught anyway).

  4. CP

The rookie pitchers continue to perform as of late. Romano, for his 4th start in a row, put together a good outing.

Also, I wonder who is going to get the next look with Castillo only having 1 game left before hitting his innings limit?

    Reed, Garrett, Davis?

  6. GaryK

I don’t think it will be Reed. He’s only puffed 3 innings his last two starts after taking about 10 days off. Been wondering why he sat out.

    • Doug Gray

Reed has, however, gone to the bullpen to throw after leaving both games.

Watched Amir’s game on computer. His mechanics have looked a little choppy lately but yesterday he seemed to have smoothed them out again. Had an old coach tell me “smooth will improve.”
