Last month the Cincinnati Reds named six of the eight players that they would be sending to the Arizona Fall League. They still needed to add one infielder and one pitcher. Brantley Bell has been added to the Scottsdale Scorpions roster to fill the infielder slot. No pitcher has been added yet.

Brantley Bell split his season between Dayton and Daytona, playing 62 and 63 games with each team. In his 497 total plate appearances he hit .232/.293/.300. That came along with 19 doubles, a triple and three home runs. He also stole a career best 29 bases on the season while being caught just seven times.

Reds to extend netting down the lines

The Cincinnati Reds announced earlier this afternoon that they will be extending the netting to the end of each dugout before the start of the 2018 season. This was reportedly in the works before yesterdays situation in New York when a small child was hospitalized after being hit by a foul ball.

I’ll leave it at this: It’s about time.

Two Reds being helped significantly by the “juiced” baseball

I’m not a fantasy baseball player, but did stumble onto an article at Rotographs today that was looking at which players were benefiting the most from the juiced baseball of 2017. Two Cincinnati Reds players wound up on the list. Zack Cozart and Scooter Gennett have both been on the smiling side of big home run growth because of the new ball according to the article.

The author suggests that Zack Cozart has gained 9 home runs this season due to the difference in the baseball. He also has the same number for Scooter Gennett. Former Red Didi Gregorius has had the biggest gain according to this data, with an impressive 13 additional home runs thanks to the baseball. I’m not entirely sure that I buy into the math working out perfectly for this study. I mean, yes, the math is the math, but I’m not sure it’s being applied correctly. Still, it’s an interesting article.

Have you listened to Great American Dream Pod Cast on Cincinnati Enquirer?

    • Doug Gray

I have. And I’ve been trying to tell everyone else to do so as well.

One of the most interesting things I have listened to in a long time. It would be awesome if you could get C Trent on a Podcast with you. Only a true Reds Minor leagues nerd would truly appreciate it.

Thought I saw Bell on Scorpions roster a couple of weeks ago because I commented to my wife that it was kind of neat he would be managed by his dad/ She thought that might be why they sent him.

Yeah, he was officially added on the 11th according to the transactions. I didn’t see it before today, never saw it announced anywhere.

Hey MK — I recently met a young man named Brett Bartles who said he briefly played at Dayton 10 years ago. He said he hit 1 HR and he still remembers it because the crowd went bananas and the dragons breathed fire.

      Any chance you remember him?

You all wish I was back. I see there is no one here to challenge King Doug on things anymore!

No one was ever a true challenge, even if they had differing opinions!

But, really, there’s still plenty of back-and-forth.
