Doug, who do you think might be in the next wave (or even one) of relievers after Hergett, Weiss, and Rainey? Would you say Hendrix and maybe include Howard? Or is there really such thing as a wave of relievers and it’s kind of unusual to have 3 at the same time like the aforementioned?

    • Doug Gray

It’s probably too soon to know. It’ll probably be some guys that are starters today, too.

Trammell with 6 BB vs 3 K in the first 7 games. Cutting his K rate, while maintaining his excellent walk rate will lead to the excellent results we’ve seen early on. He gradually improved his K rate throughout the year last year, if he’s taken another step forward in that regard in addition to proving he can be an every day CF, his prospect status is going to skyrocket. Very promising start.

If I’m management there’s a couple guys I start Garrett over right now due to mahle service time or Reed/finnegan. But long term he’s a better option coming out of the pen- check results- 6 innings 0 era .67 whip and 7ks. He’s been outstanding! Kind of hard to complain about it….

Just a dream, but only way a rookie on an inning count pitches in September/October is out of pen. So 2020 playoff run has Greene/Garrett/iglesias pitching 7,8,9. Lights out!

Trammel seems underrated to me nationally. Seems like he has superstar potential especially if his plate approach remains this good throughout the various levels.

    • Doug Gray

I think he’s about right, nationally, at least entering the year. Top 50 guy, but not Top 25 yet. I think the one issue holding him back is that enough scouts think he’s a left fielder, not a center fielder. Of course, if he keeps hitting, none of that will matter, but with the left field profile for some, he’s going to have to keep hitting to jump into that Top 25 range. So far, so good.

    • The Duke

If he keeps this kind of hitting up, he won’t be underrated for long. He was already a top 50ish guy by most of the rankings, if what he’s doing now continues and he shows he can handle CF, he’ll be top 20 by midseason.

If I’m miami prefer trammel to Lewis Brinson and if I’m reds I keep trammel vs trading for yelich

      • Reaganspad

        there is Wes prodding Doug,

It won’t work, the guy is unflappable which is why we love his site and his product.

I too am glad that we did not give up Trammel via trade this offseason. Our season is starting off so bad, and Yelich is on the 10 day anyway.

I trust what everyone has said about Yelich, and boy could the redlegs use him now.

I just like this Trammel guy

Sooo Taylor Trammel is basically a super athletic Jesse Winker? That walk rate makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside :)

I am excited about Dayton trio of Trammell, Santillan and Stephenson. They are outperforming early expectations. Hope they all make jump to AA by end of season.

I have really impressed with the athleticism of Montrel Marshall or Montreal as the nitwit behind me kept yelling last night. Marshall is not over producing but his defense is good and he has practically decapitated two pitchers with line drives so far. He might be the Votto replacement in a few years.

    • AirborneJayJay

Is Montrel the one that is a cousin of Brandon Phillips? That athleticism might be a good family trait. Will have to keep an eye on his play. 1B isn’t very well stocked for obvious reasons. But the inevitability is not too far off.

    • The Duke

He’s 22 in Low A with a career .652 OPS, I wouldn’t have him replacing Votto in the plans.

  8. Jim Delaney

Good to see the minor league teams off to a solid start and not burying themselves like the MLB team…. Still depressed about how bad the REDS look like right now… Hopefully the minor league teams will continue to play well!!!

Shed Long came out of the game early yesterday, and is not in the lineup tonight, any cause for concern? Alberti Chavez (2B) was just assigned to Pensacola from Billings. If you posted the answer to that elsewhere, my bad.

    • Doug Gray

Chavez replaces Domingo Tapia on the roster, who was promoted to Triple-A the day before.

I noticed Shed leave yesterdays game. Saw nothing that suggested anything happened. But, with him not in the lineup today, I’ll see what I can find out.
