Cincinnati Reds 2018 Draft: Rounds 31-40 Doug Gray June 6, 2018 11 Comments This post is sponsored by Cincy Fitted. They are having a sale of a few Cincinnati and Ohio related shirts right now if that’s the sort of thing that you are into. Right now you can get this shirt for just $13. So click the link above, or the photo and check them out. I will also take this time to remind you that you can also support the work done here at the site by contributing over at Patreon. That support, far more than the advertising on the site, keeps things going. With your support you will get daily emails about the games from the night before along with plenty of notes on the players, and some early access stuff that eventually finds its way to the site a few days later. Thanks for allowing the sales pitch – the draft is the busiest day(s) of the year and I’d be foolish to not take advantage of asking when the most eyeballs are here. This post will be updated throughout the day with information on each pick as they come in. All of the Cincinnati Reds selections from rounds 11-20 will be in this one post. There will be four posts today, each one with 10 selections. You can see each post, covering all of the picks in the draft by clicking here. Bats/Throws: Right/Right Previously Drafted: Not drafted Scouting Report Still working on tracking down information, but here’s two pieces of information from Double G Sports: Travis Zilg on Heitler’s no-hitter, “He was electric, dominated from the first pitch. Cory has four pitches he throws for strikes.” One of the biggest things that has changed from last year to this year is his health. He had an injury to overcome, had surgery and came back and did rehab. Round 39 Selection: Sam Knowlton, RHP, Corner High School Background Information: School: Corner High School (Alabama) Position: Right-handed pitcher Height: 6′ 7″ Weight: 225 lbs. Bats/Throws: Right/Right Previously Drafted: Not drafted Scouting Report Has been up to 94 MPH with his fastball. Very tall, has room to fill out and add velocity. He had an arm injury, but what it was is not specified – only that it cost him about 8 months. Round 40 Selection: Ryan Cusick, RHP, Avon Old Farms School Background Information: School: Avon Old Farms High School (Connecticut) Position: Right-handed pitcher Height: 6′ 6″ Weight: 225 lbs. Bats/Throws: Right/Right Previously Drafted: Not drafted Scouting Report This is going to be a next-to-impossible sign. He was ranked 235th in the country by Baseball America, and going in the 40th round doesn’t bode well for believing he’s signable. If they can pull it off, though, he’s a big-bodied right hander who sits 92-94 MPH and has touched 97 MPH. He has an inconsistent slider. 11 Responses Brad June 6, 2018 Reds must be very sure Siani is going to sign. Do not think they have taken any other highly sought of, highly expensive type players today as a backup. The Duke June 6, 2018 I’ll be shocked if they don’t have a general ball park on numbers for each of their top 5 picks. The Rage June 6, 2018 He better or the Reds bleeped up worse than ever. Numbers June 6, 2018 Doug et al, if you could only sign one player from rounds 11-40, who would it be and why? I think I’d take knowlton (39th) based on sheer size and projectability Bob Anderson June 6, 2018 Simply cannot stand Sal anymore. Bad night for Bobby to lay a turd down(maybe pitching him more than every 6-7 days would help?). Sal needs demoted. Come on, man. Watch the language. Brad June 6, 2018 Reds don’t need a 5th starter until June 23. Send Romano down, bring up a bench player. Stretch Lorenzon or Garrett out. Colorado Red June 7, 2018 Was watching the game in Denver with a buddy of mine. He said, Sal is worse then Gray. Gray has been great or terrible this year. Sal seems to have lost it from last year (as most of our pitchers have) Re-start the rebuild for the umteenth time. Stock June 6, 2018 Good week. Thanks Doug. Get some sleep Bill June 6, 2018 Doug, thanks for the great draft reporting and congrats on eclipsing a milestone on Patreon! Doug Gray June 7, 2018 Thanks, Bill. Was close enough the last few months that I was going to be able to make that extra trip anyways, but it’s certainly nice to keep moving in the right direction.
