Friday afternoon was a busy day for roster moves throughout the lower levels of the Cincinnati Reds organization. The team outright released Shane Mardirosian, who had been playing in Daytona with the Tortugas.

They also made a large series of roster transactions. Let’s first start off with the promotions. Michael Beltre was promoted from Dayton to Daytona. The outfielder was hitting .297/.404/.448 for the Dragons with 12 steals in 13 attempts. Beltre had played in 47 games for Dayton this season. Brian Hunter was “promoted” from extended spring training to Daytona. He had been suspended for positive PED test dating back to last July. Last season before his suspension he split time between Dayton and Daytona. In 28.2 innings he had a 2.51 ERA with 11 walks and 37 strikeouts. Tommy Bergjans, who was signed as a free agent two weeks ago, was assigned to Daytona. He had pitched in five games with the Phillies organization this season. In that time he had allowed 2 runs in 7.0 innings. Mitch Piatnik was promoted to Dayton from extended spring training, too. Most of his 2017 was spent in Daytona where he hit .176.

Aaron Quillen has been moved from Daytona to Dayton to help fill out their bullpen. Kevin Canelon was placed on the disabled list for the Tortugas in Daytona. And the final move was Sarkis Ohanian to the disabled list in Dayton.

Piatnik? Alejo Lopez deserves to be in Dayton. Piatnik should be on Mardirosian’s coattails.
