The Antone game might have made professional baseball history when Kuhnel was pitching in extra innings eight and ninth. With the Fire Frogs starting the inning with a runner on second it might be the only time a pitcher in a perfect game had to pitch out of the stretch because there was a runner on base.

    • Doug Gray

I wrote about breaking the laws of baseball in a post that’s about to publish….. what a wild game.

I thought in minors u only went 7 innings when u had a double hitter ? Antone would have pitched a perfect game if so.

What more does Trammell have to prove in Daytona?

    • Doug Gray

It wouldn’t be shocking if he got promoted after the Futures Game this weekend.

At the same time, the AA outfield is Aquino/Siri/Friedl – and while you can argue he should play ahead of any of those guys, two of them are on the 40-man, and Friedl should also be playing every day. It’s a weird situation to be in.

      • Hanawi

I’m not sure Aquino is going to be able to stay on the 40 man after this year. He needs to start showing something more or might be good to try to get him into a package for someone that doesn’t need to be on it.

      • The Duke

Aquino is 24 in AA with a sub .700 OPS. I’ll be shocked if he is on the 40 man after this year. He had a full sub .700 OPS season in AA last year too.

      • redlegs4ever

How Aquino hasn’t been designated for assignment by now is a real mystery. I still contend he’s someones nephew.

    • Bubba Woo

I agree. I understand the idea of going slow with a 20 yr. old, but it doesn’t seem like High A ball is challenging him at all. Why not let him spend the last 6-7 weeks of the season in AA being challenged and identifying weaknesses to work on in 2019?

      • The Duke

It’s not like he’s pulling a Vlad Jr and hitting .400+. He’s just over .300, and I contend him getting to play in CF as much as possible is just as important as how he’s hitting right now. Rushing him through the system and sticking him in LF still leaves a big hole in CF. I’d rather he get the reps in CF and be our long term solution there, because unlike some, I’m not a Siri believer.

I’m assuming Mondile is not starting for Dayton now since he was suspended yesterday? And did you ever find out why he was suspended Doug? Thanks in advance.

    • MK

It was a team suspension , not milb, for breaking team rules. So not a drug thing.

      • redlegs4ever

That seems to be the consensus thought but I would still like to know what he did. Big difference between missing curfew and beating your girlfriend or something.

If you could provide a link with the exact reasoning it would be greatly appreciated.

      • MK

Unless he tells we will never know. It would be an employment personnel matter. He does have some privacy rights.

      • redlegs4ever

Hopefully Doug knows someone close to the situation so we can get an answer.

      • Doug Gray

If it was actually something bad, you’ll find out because it’ll be a legal matter. If it was missing curfew, showing up late to a game – something like that, you’ll never find out and in the long run, it’s not a big deal at all.

Time to release Piatnik, move Harris up and move India to Billings to play SS with Case starting at 2B.

    What a 3 game stretch for Packy: 21ip, 11h, 1bb, 17k and 0 runs.

Doug, I know he was not in your top 35 but what kind of ceiling does he have? His k:bb is great but overall his hits allowed need to come down.

Could Packy be the top lhp prospect over Heatherly and Moss?

    • Doug Gray

He throws a little bit harder than a guy like Wennington Romero, but like him, he’s got to really locate in order to have success. He’s a guy that’s going to have to prove it at each level. I’d have him behind Moss and Heatherly (for different reasons on each guy) at this point.

  7. The Duke

I could see Antone making a MLB start at some point. It might only be as a AAAA guy stop gap start in the second half of a double header, but the guy knows how to pitch. The stuff isn’t top notch, but his intelligence on the mound is.

Antone ,Strahan, and Mahle came through Dayton together and all benefited from the coaching of Tom Browning. Unfortunately the first two have been side tracked by elbow surgeries.
