I would love to get some feedback on something I am going to do for my own research, but would wonder what the interest level would be from you as far as it being on the site. What I am going to do, whether its a part of the site or not, is create a Minor League Player Directory. Within it, it will have as much information as possible on each player in the minor league system. Known scouting reports, past seasons stats, former teams, news articles, pictures, video if available and ‘fan scouting reports’. The fan scouting reports would be something that obviously would only be an option if its a part of the website. Anyways, I would absolutely love some feedback on whether or not that would be something you guys would like to be a part of the website.

Every player in the minor league system? It wasn’t clear to me - you mean every player in the Reds’ system?

Even if it’s just the Reds, this seems like a big bite to chew. There’s just so much movement…RedlegNation keeps a system-wide depth chart going, and that alone seems difficult to keep current. Maybe just your top 50 prospects? That’s the most useful info anyway.

Perhaps you could combine the effort with your tags - have each player’s “info page” consist of all the posts tagged with that player’s name. Red Hot Mama did that, I think, with her ‘Better Know A Red” series. Anyway, just spitballing here.

2. I am doing every player in the system from the international teams to the Bats…. whether its a part of the site is more up to what everyone thinks.

Last year there were 183 players that threw an inning in our system, granted that includes major leaguers on rehab, but still roughly 175 guys.

There were then 176 position guys to get 1 at bat, pitchers not included…. but rehab guys were. However, if I were to do this on the website, I would only include guys currently assigned to a team in America. Which means before mid June, only Dayton - Louisville would be listed with stats and info, while guys in Extended Spring Training and the International Leagues (rumor is one of the DSL/VSL teams could be dropped this year) would just all be on one page as ‘in the organization, but currently unassigned to a team and is in extended spring training’. The media guide lists every player in the system each year, so when this years comes out will be the start of the project when I can get my hands on every name that at least starts the season in the system.

AWESOME SITE, I started with the Reds when I was 5. That’s about the time TV was just hitting the market. So it was a time of the golden age of play by play announcers. Stats were very hard to find and few people cared. Even the golden ones only give a few stats. They had story to tell. as they called the game. If their was rain delay their stories of the past kept you glued to the radio. When I was ten I got my stats at library. I also wrote Major League Baseball for a book that was published each year for the leagues. As I excitely opened the mail back from them. Once again my quest for stats went by the wayside. The book wasn’t for sale to the general public. I was twelve by this time, and life was calling. Over the next 50 years I always followed my Reds. Mostly from the radio when possible. I would catch a game every 5 or 6 years. I was always in Ohio but in the Cleveland. About 3 or 4 years ago I once again had some time to follow the Reds. I had each farm team and newspaper link on my computer. Still their was only so much time I could spend on research. The infomation on this website is simply priceless. I didn’t mean to bore you with my story. In thank you for reading my story. I was just trying to make a point. Thanks Ben

4. Ben,
great story. We all share a similar passion for baseball. I am simply amazed at the kind of technology that todays day and age provides us in terms of sports statistics and what we can do with them. On my computer I currently have access to over 2500 Minor Leaguers stats just from last year. I can look up the stats of every major leaguer who played after 1900. I can find the box score for almost every game played at 1955. Just the way that todays game and the way that we as fans follow it thanks to technology is amazing.

5. I think this is a great idea. I live in Salt lake city and Reds information like this is not easily tracked down if you do not know were to look. Since I work as a truck driver time is somewhat limited and site like this would be a big help. I would also love to offer a scouting report when the Mustangs come to Ogden, UT for a series. I try to make it to Billings also at least once a year. Good luck with building the site and I look forward to it if you do.

6. Doug,

I think this would be great…Whenever the Reds trade for minor leaguers or give some up, I try to find out exactly what happened. Since I have not seen anything like this it is hard to find anything past stats and vital info. Do it dude, do it!

7. Doug,

This is a great idea and I look forward to the info.

I can remember the time when all you could get was a short sentence in Baseball Digest in their February edition regarding prospects and their scouting reports.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it sounds like something I plan on implementing into the site sometime during spring training.
