With the piece I did on the New Prospects for 2008 last week I figured it would be worth talking a little bit about the signing the Reds just made of 16 year old Juan Duran of the Dominican Republic. What makes this different than other international free agent signings is that unlike almost every international signing in the past, the Reds are actually talking about this one. Krivsky says they like him a lot (which I hope is the case, otherwise why sign him), but even more so is that Baseball America is apparently going to make a big deal out of the signing.

Right now there is not much info on him, but I am sure it will come in soon enough.

I will be back on later in the evening to recap yesterday and todays spring training games (note: Johnny Cueto is not pitching today, he has the flu and was sent home to rest).

Why will BA talk about this?

  2. Apparently it is some big deal…. or at least big enough to talk about. Not sure I recall that ever happening with a Reds prospect from the free agent market before.
