Roster Moves

Adam Rosales and Josh Roenicke were both sent to minor league camp. Both performed very well with the Reds.

Minor League Updates

Drew Stubbs had a big day yesterday for the Louisville Bats in a game versus the Chattanooga Lookouts.  Stubbs had 2 two-run HR’s that went to the opposite field.  Misael DeJesus and Ruben Medina combined to strike out 5 batters and allow no runs in the final 3 innings. Jose Castro, Michael Griffin, Luis Bolivar, Justin Tordi and Chris Kroski all had singles in the game.

Articles on some prospects

John Fay wrote an article for today’s Enquirer about Jay Bruce possibly being groomed for RF when Griffey is no longer here.

John Fay also wrote a piece on the pitching staff and how it could shape out.  He has Cueto as a lock.

Hal McCoy has up an article on Josh Roenicke in the Dayton Daily News. Roenice was shipped to minor league camp today despite pitching well because of a lack of experience. And here I thought you were supposed to take the best talented guys…..

  1. I can’t ever recall the Reds having so many potentially good minor leaguers. Bruce, Votto, Bailey, Cueto, Volquez, Rosales, Roenicke, and these are just the top notch prospects. IMO Stubbs, Mesoraco, Viola, Maloney, Pelland, Lotzkar, Francisco, and a few others have major league potential. This is an amazing group of prospects to add to Brandon Phillips, Encarnacion, Burton, Bray, etc who are already proving themselves to be very good. The future is bright!!

I remember when Eric Davis, Stillwell, Daniels, Sabo, Larkin and others where coming along. This group could be much better.

  2. The system is highly regarded, but I think its even better than some places have it rated. There is definitely a ton of potential players in the system right now.

  3. Agreed , I cant wait to see who blossoms out of the rookie ball crop this year. Frazier, Waring, Lotzkar, Mesoraco… just to name a few. I am looking forward to see if late last season was a fluke for Stubbs or if he can follow through on the post “choking up” on the bat experiment. Looking for a big year from Francisco, Heisey, Wood, & Valaika just to name a few more. Cant wait for the minor league season to begin!

Stubbs has his best month of the year a month before he started choking up on the bat. I am sure it helps, but it wasn’t the only reason he began to turn it around. We have about 3 weeks until the minor league season starts, I am pretty excited.
