Familiar Look
Nearly all of these guys were with Chattanooga last year. The guys who surprised me to still be with them were most notably Josh Roenicke and Sam Lecure. Roenicke spent just 19 innings in Chattanooga last year but they were quite good (0.95 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP) as well as a strong spring with the Reds (6ip, 4h, 3bb, 7K, 0.00 ERA). Lecure spent some time on the DL last season, but when he was with the Lookouts he performed decently well (110 innings, 104 strikeouts, 46 walks) and I figured he would head to Louisville with that.
Players to watch
Pitcher - Derrik Lutz
He may not be the best prospect the Reds have or even the best relief prospect, but he has an ability to induce ground balls and a whole lot of them. He began the season in Chattanooga last year, but only as an injury fill in and was sent to Sarasota after a few
games.
Hitter - Craig Tatum (Photo: Tim Evearitt)
He could be the Reds future at catcher. His defense is already there and his bat showed lots of potential in Sarasota but he struggled a some upon his arrival to Chattanooga. If he can get his bat going in the right direction again his development could be huge for the Reds.

couple of questions
1) do you know if Fischer and Ramirez are still considered major league propspects, is of and even if not is’nt that bullpen pretty stacked for a AA team
2) were Camilio Vasquez and Brock Till released?
tx
ps you do a great job with this blog

Yeah, they are both prospects still. The Reds have a lot of hard throwing guys in AA/AAA coming out of the bullpen.
Both Till and Vazquez were still with the Reds, or at least he was when they printed the 2008 Media guide.

I’m surprised that Szymanski is still around, but I guess he really hasn’t played much baseball between injuries and football. Maybe there’s still hope.

I was wondering if you knew what happened with Sean Henry and Michael DeJesus.
Is it safe to assume that Rosales will start in AAA?

Kyle,
I was curious as to where Henry was going to wind up as well. I don’t think he is hurt unless its a recent injury as I heard about him some during the spring. As for DeJesus, I don’t really know. I would say its fairly safe to assume Rosales is going to be in AAA.
pw,
I think Szymanski was promoted to be a backup honestly. If thats the case, it makes plenty of sense.

Im personally glad Szymanski is still around. If you’re gonna carry an extra outfielder, why not carry one with some upside. I want him to be a Red if the light comes on.

Not very excited about this team. Not many high end prospects, Roenicke may be the highest. I like Dorn and the bullpen. The starters are weak. This team, in my opinion, will lose many games this year. Michael Griffin, however, is one of the least respected players in the reds system. He hits for ave and has a good glove. He’s been pretty consistent each year.

Joe,
There may not be many high end prospects, but it has its fair share of legit prospects. Dorn, Roenicke, Castro, Tatum, Lecure and then most of the bullpen are all legit prospects.

I think the Dragons have their roster up on their website now.

Why did they move Fisher to the bullpen?

Just a guess, but he broke down around the middle of the season. He has good stuff and they probably figure it can be used fully out of the pen.

Camilo Vazquez is with the Sarasota Reds and Brock Till was released before the end of spring training.
