Doug, Herrerra is intriguing. I know he doesn’t throw hard, but he’s a lefty and so far has pitching pretty well. Do you think he was a throw-in player with Volquez, or does he have a legit chance to make an impact someday?

I really think he is a throw in type. I don’t think he has a real shot at being a major league contributor. I hope he proves me wrong though, but I just don’t think his type of stuff plays well in the majors.

Neither do I, but he would be one of those fun over acheivers to root for and would be a typical fan favorite as an under dog. I think his best bet to make it to the majors would be as a situational lefty … come in, face one left handed hitter and then exit the game. Some lefties have made a decent career that way.

He is going to have to really prove himself at every level. I could easily see him pitching in the independent leagues in two years. As far as situational lefties go, Tyler Pelland, Ben Jukich, Matt Maloney and Pedro Viola are probably ahead of him.

I see Cozart is back and Frazier played first last night, guess that answers that question

Anybody starting to think Shaun Cumberland may have more of a future with this ballclub than we’ve been giving him credit for?

He has been real impressive so far this year, but given he couldn’t OPS .680 last year in AA between the two trades, I want to see it for a lot longer than I have.

I think that the reds have better overall depth than what they are generally given credit for. im a little worried that the farm system will fall from third best in baseball to about 20 after bailey, bruce, votto, and cueto are graduated from the list. I look for Stubbs to grab the #1 spot with Frazier and francisco not far behind.
Do you update your top 40 prospects mid year?

I generally don’t update the top 40 prospects Mid Year due to all of the recently draftees.
