Joe, Jocketty has made some good trades but he has made some klinkers as well. The reason he could make some of those trades though is he could take on that extra salary because St Louis had a very large payroll. He won't have that option in Cincinnati.
I figure Stubbs would be in Chattanooga by the AS break. Someone would likely get the call up from Dayton to take his place.
Mike, Thompson is just sick so far this year.

I'm still pissed about Krivski, but I'm a Reds lifer so I have to deal with it.

In the seventh tonight, Thompson is throwing a shutout. His ERA for the season is currently a rediculous .058. Between him and Bray that trade is going to be totally one sided. I have an autographed Kerns ball that I got on Ebay a few years ago. It's worthless and Lopez is riding the pine.

Rosales seems to breaking out of his slump 7 for last 20. I have high expectations for him. He could be the solid RH bat we need. I would love to see him moved to the OF

Doug, I honestly don't care about HRs with a speedy guy like Stubbs. I'm sure he's got some natural pop, but how many HR hitters do we need? I'd like to have more of a contact-hitting, scrappy team with a few power guys. Look at the Reds' current lineup of supposed HR hitters/high K guys: Griffey, Dunn, Phillips, EE, Votto. Not exactly getting it done at this point. (I'm not saying they're the reason the Reds are losing btw).

That's two nice outings in a row for Lecure after a rough start. Cueto and Volquez in Cincy, Homer tearing up AAA, Thompson and Lecure pitching well in AA, and Wood and Smith doing well in High A. Nice job Wayne & DanO. Don't screw it up Walt!!!

Do you have an ETA for Stubbs in AA? It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he went there in mid-May and finished his season off with a month in AAA imo.
When he does get the inevitable promotion, who do you think takes his place in Sarasota? A guy from Chattanooga or Keltavious Jones?

Any chance we see Justin Lehr in Cinti. at some point? Is there any reason not to when we are currently depending on Belisle/Fogg/Arroyo?

Doug,

Have you seen the article on Jocketty's trades in St. Louis? I was impressive. Here is part of it.

Story from mlbtraderumors.com

Consider:

Jocketty landed, via trade, Mark McGwire, Jim Edmonds, Edgar Renteria, Darryl Kile, Scott Rolen, Dennis Eckersley, Todd Stottlemyre, Fernando Vina, Larry Walker, Will Clark, Adam Wainwright, and Woody Williams.

Here are the most notable players he gave up to get them: Eric Ludwick, T.J. Mathews, Kent Bottenfield, Adam Kennedy, Braden Looper, Pablo Ozuna, Manny Aybar, Jose Jimenez, Placido Polanco, Bud Smith, Steve Montgomery, Jay Witasick, Juan Acevedo, Chris Narveson, Jose Leon, one year of J.D. Drew, and the waning days of Ray Lankford’s career.

It’s an astonishing haul. Generally Jocketty would use the same formula: go after some established but underappreciated star, give up a few middling prospects for him, let him soak in the cozy St. Louis fan experience, win ballgames, re-sign the guy to an extension (often with a hometown discount), win more ballgames, then repeat the whole process as one big feedback loop. Jocketty was a master at that (and he was probably the best trading-deadline dealer there ever was – that’s how he got McGwire, Clark, Williams, Rolen, Walker, Chuck Finley, and Fernando Tatis).

You gotta admit, Doug, that's pretty impressive!! I hate what happened to Krivski. I thought Krivski did a good job and improved this team and farm. Jocketty, however, has a pretty good track record.

Kevin,
His strikezone judgement has been much better the last two weeks. Over his last 10 games he has 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Yeah, you want to see more walks, but when a power hitter is hitting .340 I am not going to complain one bit. When people throw him strikes, especially lately, he is hitting the ball hard and in play. His strikeouts are down from last year in AAA and so are his walks slightly. I will make that trade off with a guy with his power. I watch him play almost every day. He doesn't swing at bad pitches very often.

Jeff,
Yeah, Stubbs is killing the baseball. He doesn't have a HR yet this year, but he has a 37% line drive rate this year. That is called hitting the ball with authority.

Hell yeah, Drew! Nice beginning to the season. Hopefully he can keep it going. 11 for 11 in steals is nice.
