John Sickels over at Minorleagueball.com did a crystal ball view on Jay Bruce and projected his career. Below is what he has for Jay.
19 seasons, .284 career batting average, 504 HR and 2600 hits. There is more over there, but I just wanted to highlight 1 season for Jay that John projected. 2014 Sickels has Bruce hitting .297 with 40 doubles, 4 triples and 49 HR to go with 133 RBI for the Reds. That would be nice. Check out the link for the entire Crystal Ball.

This is really weird, how can someone predict a player that has never even seen a big leagh at bat. What makes him think he will become an astro after so many seasons? I wonder if he will predict how much money he’s going to make?

People do it all the time. When we make prospect lists, or teams make up their draft board…. they are basing this on what they think the players will eventually do in the major leagues. As for the Astro’s thing, I figure its just because Jay is from Texas and will head back home toward the back end of his career.

I was almost expecting more homeruns, but 500 will probably be like 600 after the steroid era. Gotta love the longevity.

The Reds should probably go ahead and lock him up for the next 19 years. Sure it’s a risk, but think of the discount in 2027.

Seems like Sickles doesn’t think Bruce is going to walk a lot. Do you think he’ll pick up plate discipline?

I think he will walk slightly more than John does, but in general I figure the walk numbers are about right for Bruce…. in the general area at least.
