Chris Valaika, #9 on the Baseball America Prospect Hot Sheet

May 2nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

Baseball America unveiled its weekly Hotsheet this afternoon and Chris Valaika came in at #9 overall. Valaika has been absolutely on fire this year, leading the FSL in AVG, SLG, OPS, HR and RBI. He was the only Red to make the list, but they did have a note on Homer Bailey’s recent outing.

One question is, what does Daryl Thompson have to do to get some love on this list. This kid has flat out dominated AA so far. Come on guys, you do good work but really…. Thompson is killing it. Get him on that list.

Whatever went wrong with Valaika last year is over this year. He is hitting crazy good. It is pretty lame that Thompson isn’t on the hot list. Also, Justin Turner is hitting pretty good too and would probably be getting much more attention if not for Valaika.

Justin Turner may be the most under appreciated player in the system right now. All the guy has done is be a solid player all around since being drafted. If he doesn’t make the major leagues in some way I would be extremely surprised.

You’ve got to love Turner’s grit. Him and Valaika both seem like high-character guys. Is there really much difference between Turners tool set and Valaika’s except maybe a little pop? Im wondering if maybe Turner can slip under the radar and emerge as a Jeff Keppinger type player.
