In the past two days both Jordan Smith and Travis Wood have been promoted to Chattanooga. While the roster moves are not official yet (and likely won’t be until the day these guys will pitch) the Lookouts have these guys as current starters: Thompson, Avery, Jukich, Lecure, Wood and Smith. That is 6 guys for 5 spots. Could that mean Daryl Thompson is heading to Louisville? Maybe Ben Jukich? Ramon Ramirez was already told he was going there.
Update: Daryl Thompson to Louisville is official now, all 30 minutes after I posted this. I should have just waited.
The next question is what happens with the Sarasota staff? Losing Wood and Smith leaves Sarasota with these guys as starters: Guerrero, Smit and Gonzalez. Camilo Vazquez is making his 4th start of the year today, but all of those have come as fill in starts. Rumors are that Scott Carroll could be heading to Sarasota but that still may leave them a starter short. If the Carroll rumors are true, that leaves open a spot in Dayton. Could Kyle Lotzkar be heading up or do they give Josh Ravin another shot after a so-so spot start last week? Should be an interesting week to see what happens.

I think we need to put Josh Ravin into the closer role because he dose not have the control to be able to go deep into ball games. and with that plus plus fastball he has he would be dominet in the 9th inning.

Josh,
Its too early to give up on Ravin’s control not coming around. He is 20 years old and possesses two good pitches. Keep him a starter as long as you can to get him the most work possible. If in 3-4 years he still is having issues, a move to the bullpen is when you go about it.

I think that Dayton should move Montano and Carroll up. Then I would assume that the Dayton rotation would be made up of Klinker, Partch, Del Rosario, Ravin and maybe Lotzkar or Hildenbrandt or Andrew Bowman (whatever happened to him?)
How many guys do the Reds have in extended spring training exactly?

Not sure what happened to Bowman. As for guys in extended spring training, its probably close to 40 right now. You have to think there are guys rehabbing there, then guys that are going to be assigned to the GCL and Billings teams.

I noticed that Josh Beal was placed on the Sarasota roster. Is he going to be a starter there? Besides the obvious -Lotzkar and Soto - im looking forward to seeing Oliveras, Wideman, and Hildenbrandt play this year. Im kind of surprised we haven’t seen Brandon Rice this year. He seemed to pitch alright in the GCL last year.

Lee Tabor is also headed to Chattanooga now. There is going to be a whole lot of moves coming very soon.
I doubt Beal stays there. He is 19 and has not pitched above the GCL until today. He is likely just a guy that was throwing well in extended ST and was brought up for just today.

Great news for Thompson, bad news for me, I was hoping to see him pitch when Nooga visits Mobile down here … but I am very pleased with this promotion for Daryl .. he has earned it. If Bailey doesnt get his game in gear, he could find himself another notch lower in the pecking order. Nice to see all the reshuffling … getting the better prospects moving. Is a Bruce to Cincy in the works? I sure hope so, cuz watching Patterson in the lineup so often is making my heartburn worse every day. I was going to ask you about Lotzkar Doug, it will be good to hear something soon about him … with all these moves, he should be in the mix for a shot at Dayton. Do you see Stubbs getting a bump or do you think he sits tight to work more on his plate discipline?

Plate discipline isn’t the issue with Stubbs, its contact rate. Stubbs can draw a walk with the best of them (well not the best of them, but he walks plenty). I think Stubbs spends some time in Sarasota still, but will get to AA soon enough.

So Ramon Ramirez is still going to AAA? Any idea what move is made to make room for Thompson?

Doug,
Carroll to Sarasota is not a rumor!
Valiquette will join him thuesday.

Finally Jocketty seems to be starting to move. I hope these moves mean that we are not too long from major shakeups on the major league ballclub. Any thoughts about when Cody Strait may move to AAA? I see no reason for him to be held in AA any longer.

Doug,
Any thoughts after today’s Memorial Day Massacre? Someone is going to have to pitch for Harang and, to be honest, Volquez. Dust-acular really flubbed things up and I’m worried turning around on Volquez is really going to flub him up.
Not to mention the dead weight in the OF right now. Me thinks Bruce starts this week.

Rick,
Here is my thinking. Belisle is demoted and one of Bailey/Maloney is brought up to make a start or more to push others back a day. Words can’t describe what happened with the Reds tonight. I just can’t believe we used 60% of our starting rotation in 1 game. That is beyond excuse. Sometimes you just need to go hey bench player, go out there and try not to take a liner off the face.
My guess on Bruce, he is starting in CF Tuesday.

Unless you drop someone off the 40 (Drew OF Anderson, Ryan Hanigan, Chris Dickerson, Move A-Gonz to 60-day DL), you bring up someone on the 40 (Bailey, Thompson). I would not be totally against a spot start for Fogg. He has something to prove, is a vet so I think he responds to that opportunity. Start him Wed, Arroyo Thur, and I think everyone falls in line after that say any combo of Volquez/Harang you want with Belisle on Sun. After that Sun start, you do with Belisle as he determines. No one in AAA has proven ready to take his spot.
