  1. Mesoraco is posting a .344 babip but still its nice to see his OPS up for once.

  2. Juan Francisco is hiting over 300 has 8 homers and over 30 rbi’s should he stay in high A ball or is it time for him to get promoted to AA even though his walk rate is still scary at 3.

  3. It looks like Eric Eymann has a hold on that third base job now. Is he actually a prospect? I think I heard somewhere that he has decent leather.
I cant wait to see how Travis Wood pitches today. I am stunned that he was already promoted. He must have made some progress on his curveball this year. Has anybody heard if his velocity returned? It seems to me that if he can throw 90-93 he can be a middle of the rotation starter.

  4. I wouldn’t promote Francisco until he walks 30 times in a season. Seriously. He is on pace to walk 7 times in 500 at bats.

Travis Wood is actually pitching on Wednesday. His velocity has been up there this year at times. Being in Sarasota there are only a few ways to get game reports, but I know one game he was sitting 86-88 MPH but in two other games he was sitting 89-92. His low velocity game did start at 10:30 in the morning though, so until I see another report of him sitting that low, I brush it aside as an outlier.

  5. I had thought that Wood was throwing today because he hadn’t pitched since the 20th. So im going to assume that Smith is pitching today since Lecure, Jukich, and Avery just pitched and Smith pitched on the 21st. How hard does Wood need to throw to become a middle of the rotation starter?

How do you feel about Justin Reed He’s only 20 years old he has stolen 13 bases so far this year he has 5 homers and he actualy knows how to take a walk. The only bad things i can see are he has a ton of strikeouts and a 240 average witch dosent scare me because he hit 300 at GCL last year.

  7. Doug,
How long until Valiquette and Jeffors get a promotion? They have both been dominate in Dayton.

    Kyle,
Wood probably needs to throw 87-90 to be a decent #3 type pitcher if he can stay healthy.

    Josh,
I like Justin Reed as a prospect. He still needs to put some of his tools to work, but he has almost all of them. The strikeouts are an issue he is going to need to overcome, but he is an exciting guy to watch.

    Ryan,
Valiquette is being promoted tomorrow I believe.

  9. Doug, what happened to Wood’s velocity? When he was drafted, didn’t he throw around 93-95?

  10. I had thought that Wood originally threw 89-92. If Wood was throwing 93-95 in highschool, or had a projectable frame, he probably would have been a first rounder, maybe even top ten.

Wood, when drafted was throwing 88-91 in HS, but was throwing 91-95 his first season. His mechanics however weren’t the safest things ever and the Reds worked with him to tone things down a bit. Probably a good move on their part. His size is one of the things that hurt him in the draft.
