  1. Its hard to get hoter than Adam Rosales is right now.

  2. Obviously the Reds are somewhat reloading their system after promoting many of the high end player. Signing this Domincan kid along with Younder would be key in keeping the system in the top 10. Still not a fan of Walt Jocketty, but Castellini seems smart enough to see the value in spending to bring in young tallent.

My problem with Younder is that he’s left handed. Obviously Griffey and Dunn’s days are numbered, but you still will have Bruce, Votto and Younder to try and split up. It seems as if that’s been part of the problem for the current team. The selection of Younder also means that Votto will have to move to the outfield and while I hear that he’s better than Dunn out there, doubt he will be ideal. Your thoughts on that Doug?

  3. Rosales has always been a .280-.290 hitter, so it would be nice to see him get hot and get his average respectable in AAA. I still think he can be a valuable utility guy off the bench for the Reds that can be a decent pinch hitter and start at SS, 3B, 1B, 2B, or LF in a pinch. Same thing with Mike Grffin who is slowly starting to get his average back towards respectibility.

  4. The Reds problem isn’t that they have too many lefties in their lineup. The problem is they have too many lefties who don’t hit lefties well. Votto hits lefties well and as he gotten olden so does Bruce. Griffey hit lefties well back in the day but doesn’t have the plate coverage he once did. Dunn can’t hit lefties.

To me the bigger issues is that outside of Brandon Phillips the Reds don’t have enough righties who can really punish lefties on a consistent basis. When the Reds beat lefties, and they’ve been doing it on a more consistent basis, it’s b/c their righties are hitting.

Final point, most starting pitchers in the majors are right handers, so having the lefties in the lineup in theory is very good. The Reds just don’t have the right guys up right now. It hurts me big time to say that b/c Griffey has always been my favorite player.

  5. Todd Frazier should help with the lefty problem when he makes it to the majors.
I had no idea that Brodie Pullen pitched. Was that a desperation move?
I wonder how hard it is going to be for the Reds to choose which outfielders to send to Dayton next year. Sappelt, Means, Stovall, Stiffler, Brown, Conner and Oliveras all seem deserving.
Do you have any word on Gregorius or Kuo talent wise yet? Can they play short?

    Mike D,
I think splitting up the lefties is overrated. Get lefties that can hit lefties and its not an issue. Votto and Bruce can hit lefties.

    Kyle,
From what I have seen, Kuo can play a mean SS. He had a video up online somewhere from his high school days. Both he and Gregorious were notable international signees. Not the biggest signees ever, but still got a significant amount of money that it was talked about.

  7. Dayton will have a glut of outfielders to choose form next year, and the only one I can see being guaranteed a spot is Brown. If Soto gets moved to LF, that only complicates matters more.

The guy I am most excited about is Efrain Contreras. He had great numbers last year. He has started off strong this year. At 21 he seems to be taking off. He has shown good pop and a good eye. Last year had 30 steals so he has some wheels.

  9. The Reds have 2 prospects in the Futures Game, Chris Valaika and Juan Francisco: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080626&content_id=423442&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp
