  1. Sean Henry is just raking lately, and his avg is back up to .320 with an OBP just under .400. This is why I included him with Dorn and Cumberland when talking about promoting outfielders. I still say promote Cumberland and Henry and have a AA outfield of Dorn in left, Stubbs in center, and whomever else is left or maybe even Heisey in right.

  2. Are they even close to signing Yonder yet?? I heard Walt say last week he “thinks” they will be able to sign him. Maybe that is why they went so hard after the Dominican kid b/c they dont plan on signing Yonder

    D,
I think the entire AA outfield is ready for AAA.

    CJ,
Someone will eventually blink from the college ranks and when one person signs, the rest will follow. None of the top college guys have signed yet and are likely waiting for someone else to set the bar.

  4. I can’t imagine them drafting a guy 7th overall if they didnt plan on signing him. It wouldn’t be the worst thing if he didn’t sign, because the Reds would get the 8th pick next year (well 7B). That would make for a nice draft haul.
I went to the Dragons game last night but couldn’t pick up too much from the lawn seating. The one thing that did impress me was Cozart’s defense. Every bit as good as advertised. He may even be on par with Janish glove wise. Mesoraco seemed to do a solid job catching and made several good snap throws down to first. Soto’s overthrow to first was really bad.
I went in the gift shop after the game to get stuff signed by Henry Arias and Matt Klinker. Arias seemed a little uncomfortable but he was polite. Klinker was great. He was friendly and real good with my 5 year old niece.

    Kyle,
Klinker is a real good guy. I agree with you on Alonso, no reason they shouldn’t sign him unless his demands are outrageous.

So, how many Reds prospects do you think will be ranked in the top 100 come this fall? Who is most likely to make that list?

  7. If Yonder does try to demand a major league contract and over 4 million bonus i wouldn’t have any problem with saying ‘here’s my final offer’ and taking the same pick the next year if he rejects it.
I might be in the minority here, but I kind of prefer getting free agent compensation to guys in a trade. Getting Todd Frazier and Kyle Lotzkar out of Schoenweis and Aurillia was brilliant.

  8. Doug, is it safe to say that drew stubbs is a bust? he is no where even close to where i thought he would be back when we drafted him. he is not hiting for the average or power he was projected to hit. and don’t say hes just unlucky because luck dosen’t last an entire season.

    wanderinredsfan,
Thompson, Francisco, Frazier, Alonso (if he signs), Mesoraco and Soto all have a shot. Lotzkar could if he has a big second half.

    Kyle,
Yeah, they did pretty good on Frazier and Lotzkar lol.

    Josh,
No, its not even close. Without going into a huge long post, Stubbs is going to be fine. He has been unlucky this year (last year, not so much) but he is doing fine for the league he is in, has raised his walk rate, lowered his strikeout rate and doubled his line drive rate from last year. Just as a reference point, Ryan Braun had a .778 OPS in half a season in the FSL at age 22. Right now Stubbs has a .787 OPS in a half season in the FSL at age 23. He won’t turn into Braun, but be careful how much you read into statlines of players in the Florida State League…. they can be very deceitful. If Drew continues to walks, strikeout and hit line drives at the rate he is currently doing, there is no doubt in my mind he will be a fine major league baseball player.

  10. In support of Doug’s comment on Stubbs, I have one name for you, Joey Votto. Votto was considered a low-level prospect after his year in the FSL and then bloomed in better hitter leagues. Give Stubbs time, not everyone is Jay Bruce or Johnny Cueto.

So, you don’t think Valaika is ‘top-100′ material? He sure seems to have figured out AA hitting lately, he’s on the Futures Team, and has won at almost every level.
Also, how high is the ceiling for relievers Manuel, Geronimo, and Fisher?

  12. total brain fart on Valaika. He is certainly in the mix. Fisher has far and away the best stuff of those guys.

  13. I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if the Reds were shut out of the top 100 entirely. Although i suspect that Alonso would fall in the 60-70 range. Mesoraco and Frazier could sneak into the 90’s. Stubbs was number 1oo last year so if he can move up to AA this year and do ok he might make it again. i dont think BA would be impressed with a 23 year old that didnt make it to AA yet.
I think the only reason Valaika is going to miss the top 100 is because he doesn’t necessarily project as a shortstop.
I have Alonso, Mesoraco, Frazier, and Stubbs as the top 4.
