Johnny Cueto vs the Brewers 4-8-08 and some major disparities

April 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Cueto pitched real well last night again and for the second game in a row, did not walk a batter. The data seems quite a bit different from last night in Milwaukee than it does from his first start in Cincinnati. Those differences will be noted below though. Here is what Cueto did speed wise versus the strikezone.

Mostly his offspeed stuff was out of the zone low, which is what you want with the sink on his slider and on his changeup. He was pounding the zone with his fastball as he didn’t miss too often with it.

Now, as I noted in previous posts on Cueto, the movement on his pitches seemed off according to the pitch f/x system in Cincinnati (as did the speed for that matter). Below is a chart that shows the movement of his pitches in Cincinnati versus the movement of his pitches in Milwaukee.

Now obviously there is a huge difference there. Either Johnny Cueto became a different pitcher, or someones camera system is not set correctly. With what Cueto throws, the data from Milwaukee matches up well with what it should look like, where as the data from Cincinnati doesn’t make an ounce of sense.
