How does Jared Burton finish at bats?

April 22nd, 2008 · 2 Comments

First, let me apologize for taking what turned out to be 4 days off. I had a lot of work to catch up on and this site was the thing that got the ax for a few days until I could catch up. Anyways, I am back and hopefully won’t have to take any more off days for a while. Hopefully.

Now on to Jared Burton. I was asked to take a look at the last pitch he threw in at bats, so after about an hour of formatting it all its done. I want to note that the pitch descriptions are the ones provided by the Pitch F/X system and that from what I have picked up on, aren’t always completely accurate. Still, its decently accurate.

According to the system, when Burton goes with his regular fastball he seems to struggle as he allowed 2 singles and a double. His slider seems to be his go to pitch more often than not and for the most part it has been quite successful getting plenty of called strikes and a few swinging strikes.

Thanks Doug, hitters must really not be expecting the slider with 2 strikes. Looks like a pretty tough pitch on top of that.

I’m surprised he doesn’t throw his cutter more often with two strikes. Is it possible that he’s using the cutter more against lefties and the slider against right-handers?

    Joel,
Thats the problem with the pitch f/x classification…. it only has Burton throwing I believe 18 cutters all year in over 130 pitches.
