While watching the Reds game the other night, one of the announcers (can’t recall currently who it was) said that Votto loved the high pitches and I decided to see if that observation was a valid one. I broke down the height of the pitches Votto has seen this year in 10 inch increments and added his strikezone in as well. Here is what the results looked like with nearly 400 pitches thrown to him.

It would appear that Votto at least likes the high pitch as much as he does pitches in the zone, swinging nearly as often at them as he does ones at the same height as the ones in the 20-40 inch range. He lays off the ones that are extremely high and as the pitches get lower, he also tends to lay off of those, swinging half as often at pitches in the 10-20 inch range as he does the ones in the 30 inch area above it. The ones between the ground and 10 inches off the ground he swings half as often as he does at ones just 10 inches above it. He doesn’t seem to chase much low in the zone.
