Paul Janish needs to be starting at SS today

May 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

No graphs, charts or numbers today (those will come back tomorrow)….. today just a little rant. Jerry Hairston has hit this year, no question about it. He is no SS though. Sure, Janish air mailed one last night at a poor time, but Hairston wouldn’t have been within 2 feet of that ball. This team has a poor defense as it is already, playing janish is a must if this team wants to be serious. Let him play until he shows you he can’t, which going by the Corey Patterson scale, he may never do.

Or, stick Phillips at short and play Hairston (or Freel) at 2B. He’ll do less defensive damage there, and Phillips should be able to hold his own at short. He played there enough in the minors, after all. -j
