Zack Weiss, the top relief prospect in the Cincinnati Reds farm system, hasn’t yet pitched this season. He was in big league camp with the Reds, but he would only make two appearances that spanned 3.0 innings. He missed time in spring training and has been on the disabled list since the season began.

After a season in which Zack Weiss posted 1.98 ERA, mostly in Double-A over the span of 63.2 innings with just 15 walks and 90 strikeouts, the reliever would seem to be able to help the Reds bullpen in short order if he were healthy. The team certainly can use all of the help in the bullpen as they can get right now.

I was able to talk briefly with Zack Weiss this morning. He said that rehab is coming along and hopefully it’s not much longer now.

Jesse Winker has missed the last two games. Matt Andrews, Louisville Bats radio broadcaster mentioned during the game last night that he has been under the weather. So, no injury to worry about – he just hasn’t been feeling well. Something is going around the lockerroom as Robert Stephenson also mentioned after his last start that he had been battling a cold.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos broadcaster Tommy Thrall was on local Cincinnati radio with Lance McAlister. Thrall talked about pitchers Amir Garrett, Rookie Davis and Nick Travieso. He also talked a little bit about position players Phil Ervin and Alex Blandino.

Louisville Bats infielder Jermaine Curtis is out to one of the best starts I can remember. He’s only played in 12 games so far this season, but he’s made all of that playing time count. In 52 plate appearances he has 17 hits and eight walks, good for a .588 on-base percentage. He’s also rocking a .459 average and slugging .541 to go along with a stolen base and just three strikeouts. Oh, and he’s been hit by five pitches – all of which came in five straight games.

The MLB bullpen sure can use some “relief” from Zack Weiss. Hopefully he can be available soon! Everyone is so worried about how the Reds are playing now but thanks to this site, I know that we have some promising guys! Thanks and keep it coming!
