The Daytona Tortugas have placed right handed pitcher Jake Paulson onto the disabled list with right shoulder inflamation.

Jake Paulson has had struggles early on this season with Daytona, posting an ERA of 8.55 in five games – four starts. In his 20.0 innings pitched he’s allowed 24 hits, hit three batters, walked eight and struck out 16 batters. That’s a drastic difference from the guy that was in Dayton last season who posted a 2.60 ERA in 117.2 innings with 18 walks and 92 strikeouts. Hopefully he can return to the mound quickly, and healthy, and get his season back on track after a slow start.

He’s been replaced on the roster by left hander Greg Williams. The now 26-year-old was originally drafted in 2008 by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Moeller High School, but he didn’t sign and went to Marshall to play college baseball. Three years later he was drafted in the 12th round by the Texas Rangers.

The first two seasons of his career went well for Greg Williams with the Rangers, posting ERA’s of 3.24 and 3.96 between rookie ball, Low-A and Advanced-A. He worked out of the bullpen in those two season, throwing 61.1 innings with 23 walks and 55 strikeouts.

Williams missed the entire 2013 season after having Tommy John surgery. He returned in June of 2014 and made four appearances in rookie ball but would need a second Tommy John surgery performed and that one cost him the entire 2015 season. He was released by the Rangers near the start of spring training in 2016 and would sign with the Reds on April 6th.

With his injuries keeping him off of the mound for the better part of the last three seasons, there’s not much of a scouting report available on the left handed reliever. When he was healthy he threw in the low 90’s and reportedly touched as high as 97 MPH at one point.

Maybe it has been reported here before and I missed it but heard from former house parents Sunday that Pedro Villareal is having labrum surgery on shoulder.

I hadn’t seen that anywhere, but that sucks for Pedro.
