Last night in Norfolk, Virginia Cincinnati Reds top prospect Nick Senzel was replaced in the first inning. He took his at-bat in the top of the first, flying out. He didn’t come out to take the field in the bottom of the inning, with Stuart Turner taking over his spot in the lineup and sliding in to the catchers position and causing some movement with other players defensively.

C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reported this morning that Nick Senzel was removed from the game due to him not feeling well and feeling dizzy.

As Trent notes, last season Nick Senzel had his season cut short after dealing with positional vertigo. He missed the final two weeks of the season for Pensacola, then the playoffs. It sounds like, if nothing else, he’s going to miss a few games just to be on the safe side. Hopefully this is just something minor and it’s related to him not feeling well and not anything more serious than that.

An example of an athlete with chronic vertigo: LeBron James

This is something that may or may not be with him for a long time. But even if it is chronic, that should not prevent him from being able to have a full career. It just needs to be managed properly.

I didn’t know that about Lebron. He has put together a pretty impressive career while dealing with that, hopefully Senzel can follow that path

Unfortunately for every LeBron there is a David Duvall who could not continue his golf career, and Nick Esasky who never was quite the same.

Duvall’s issues were physical injuries, fiance wrecking his life. Later on in his career (last few years ) vertigo popped up.

Maybe it is just an allergy related thing (tis the season). I know many people who go through it a few days each year.

Gosselin waived both opens a 40 man roster spot and saves a little cash. Will that spot go to Herget as a replacement for Garret while he is on bereavement leave? I think I’d lean towards bringing up someone like Rainey for now and saving that opening for Senzel or when Disco is ready.

Hopefully not another Nick Esasky situation.
