It looks like today is the day that we will be getting the coaching staffs for the Cincinnati Reds affiliates for the 2019 season. The first one released this morning is for the Dayton Dragons. They will have mostly the same staff that they had in 2018.

Manager Luis Bolivar returns for his third year as Dayton Dragons manager. He was promoted to manager after spending three years as hitting coach for Dayton, and one year as the hitting coach for the Arizona League Reds. Bolivar also played in the Reds organization from 2002-2009, and spent one year in the Atlanta organization. As manager the Dragons have gone 126-152 the last two seasons.

Pitching coach Seth Etherton returns for his second year with Dayton. Before joining the Dragons as pitching coach he was the pitching coach for Billings for two seasons. In his playing career, the former 1st round pick (1998) saw parts in four Major League seasons with the Angels, Royals, Athletics, and Reds. He also pitched abroad in both Korea and Venezuela.

Bench coach Kevin Mahar is also returning. This will be his third season as the Dragons bench coach and his sixth season with the Reds organization. He had previously served as the hitting coach in both Daytona and Billings in previous seasons. Before coaching, he played professionally and reached the Major Leagues in 2007 with the Texas Rangers.

The only new addition to the coaching staff will be new hitting coach Mike Devereaux. This will be his second year in the organization as a hitting coach. In 2018 he was the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos hitting coach. Prior to that he had been a coach in the Colorado Rockies organization for six seasons. In his playing career he played in the Major Leagues for 12 seasons with the Dodgers, Orioles, White Sox, Braves, and Rangers.

Andrew Cleves will return as the athletic trainer. It will be his 4th year as Dragons athletic trainer. Justin Bucko will be the new strength and conditioning coach. In 2017 he held the job for the Arizona League Reds, and then last season with the Billings Mustangs.
