India is really starting to impress me. Wouldn’t be surprised for him to wreck that league by June. He is making adjustments and doing so fluently.

India looks like he’s getting more and more comfortable. I can see him scorching the league from this point until he gets promted.

Tyler Stephenson has made the transition to AA really well. Hopefully his defense is improving as well.

By the time the season is over, I see India, Trammel, and Stephenson emerging as a formidable 1-2-3 punch by season’s end. I dont think they’ll be far enough along to pencil into 2020’s Opening Day line-up but all 3 could very well be knocking the door down by mid-season next year.

The emergence of Castillo and Desclafani coupled with positive signs Gray(sterling peripherals) and Mahle(really nice peripherals as well) have been about as much as you could of hoped for. Hopefully they amaintain their current trajectories and health b/c it would really make Dick Williams job that much easier this off-season. Only having to worry about acquiring 1 SP would be a nice departure from seasons past.

My one complaint for the day is that by the time the offense figures it out, the Reds will be 10+ games under. Playoffs will be an after thought. Joey Votto and Jesse Winker each have been worth -0.1 brWAR. Winker ops’ing under .600 and Votto under .500 for the month have been absolute daggers. I’m not going to look up Barnhardt’s but it has to be UGLY. In Tucker’s defense, no one expected him to do much offensively.

Please forgive my wonderful grammer, especially in the 3rd paragraph.

Looked up Tucker’s May numbers and woof, they are uglier than i thought. .069 avg, .422 ops… and he still started yesterday lololololol.

Ryan, I agree with your post completely. Stephenson continues to make progress and the Reds have to be pleased. Great kid, so easy to root for him.

The offense is mind numbing! They need a couple guys to get hot and ignite the others. Hard to grasp whats going on? I keep believing in Joey, but who knows?

Good to see a big game from Garcia. He is a guy I’m excited about!

Doug, your link for Garcia goes to the wrong Jose Garcia. To me Garcia is the future star on the Daytona team. When his body finishes maturing Lorenzen will start wearing baggy uniforms so he doesn’t get shown up and Jose’s will be natural, not from pumping iron.

The problem with quick promotions for India is he doesn’t have a position to play once he gets there. Maybe he should be getting a few games at first base. He could be the heir apparent there.

Kind of wondering if all the winter’s trade talk could have had a negative effect on Tucker’s head and in turn his bat.

    • Ryan

I’m not sure Gavin LaValley is going to hold India back and they do have the DH. I would get him time in RF, 2nd and 1st base as well keeping him sharp at 3rd. If/when he gets promoted, Lookout for the Lookouts. Right field is probably the easiest to find time at Cincy next year.

You never know how that stuff affects players but Tucker did start the season out pretty well until cratering about 3 weeks ago. Not sure Casali does any damage against Hendrick’s yesterday but they should reverse the PT until Tucker shows signs of life.

      • RojoBenjy

But if Tucker doesn’t have the hot hand you gotta play him til he gets hot!

I am not sure a position need at Chatanooga will have anything to do with an India promotion. Just from my eye test l’m not sure he has quick enough feet for the middle infield. He kind of has heavy feet more conducive to a corner spot. If the Lookouts need a right fielder they should just put Beltre there and let him adjust to AA. The outfield combinations of Friedl, Sir, Trammel and Beltre was the best defensive group that Dayton ever had., with one being the DH when not on field.

      • Stock

I think MK was referring to Cincinnati and not Chattanooga.

I don’t link the players individually. Baseball-Reference provides a tool – I’ve just got to click a button. With common names, they’ll get them wrong every so often.

India can play 2b in 2021 or 2022 after the normal time required in AAA. Between Dietrich and Gennett the Reds have options at 2b through 2020 with the potential to extend one or the other for 1-3 years to maintain the talent level and ease India into MLB.

Trammell – Senzel – Winker is a decent OF in 2021 as well.

If the Reds keep losing (and nothing points to that changing dramatically – their division is very tough and they have a rookie manager), they may want to retool by early July. Ship out the hottest of Wood, Puig, Hughes, Duke, Hernandez, etc. Chances are they can still compete just as well with homegrown talent through the end of the year.

      • Ryan

Gannett is a FA after this season. Dietrich does fit really well with Blandino being a good fit for a platoon partner.

Going into the season Puig, Gannett, and Alex Wood were thought of as being really nice trade chips if they fell out of contention. Puig is struggling(starting to turn it around though) and the other two are yet to take the field in Goodyear. Gannett should have a little more than month to show he’s healthy and productive and hopefully Alex Wood does as well. All that being said, I remain hopeful that the Reds can get decent value for those 3 which would be a really nice boost to Farm.

Dietrich would be a nice guy to have next season, he alone has made the season some-what enjoyable, but he may be too valuable not to trade at the deadline with only 1 year of control remaining. It would also open up(assuming Gannett is traded as well) time for the to evaluate VanMETER.
