Any background on Spencer Stockton pitcher for AZL Reds? I noticed he signed a couple of days ago. Perhaps another undrafted free agent?

Cameron Warren is off to a hot start in Greeneville. .444 in 5 games. I really liked him during College World Series. His power numbers are not there yet but the transition to wood can do that.

One minor league pitcher made it through five innings last. Not a good omen for training starters to go deeper.

If you look at ML box scores a lot of starters are going 6 innings. BA third time around against the starter are being takes to heart it seems…

I have no idea why other teams (like the Braves) have much more success pushing their starters while the Reds are having Lodolo throw 2 innings at a time.

BTW, Josiah Gray took a no-no into the 7th last night.

Any reason why Richardson only went 3 innings on 66 pitches?

the Dodgers scouting department doesn’t get enough credit. They plucked Jeter Downs and Josiah Gray from us for basically allowing the Reds to trade a bad contract and some loose change that they no longer had room for. There is a reason their minor league systems are always stocked with great talent.

Reds need to pluck some minor league scouting & development people from Dodgers and Astros instead of promoting from within.

Did I miss where the Reds acquired Yasiel Puig and Alex Wood, two well above-average players, in addition to swapping bad contracts of Bailey/Kemp?

I’ve said it before. Reds should never trade with certain teams (Dodgers, Yankees, and quite a few others). They have much better scouting and analytics departments and pretty much fleece the Reds every time. There was a good interview with Josiah Gray that I read this morning where he talked about how much information was available to him in the Dodgers system for learning how to pitch and where he could improve, etc. Maybe the Reds are moving in that direction with Caleb Cotham, but they have a long way to go. Their MiLB pitching development is atrocious.

How many other organizations would have not hung up the phone when the Reds mentioned Homer Bailey’s name? It was a Dodgers deal, or no deal at all. That deal has benefited both clubs. The Sonny Gray trade with the Yankees is so far working out better for the Reds. What happened a few years ago when Joketty was trying to trade ML players for “ML ready prospects” was just unfortunate. The Reds obtained a whole crew of injury -prone & AAAA players for their trouble.

    • Hanawi

Why did they need to trade Bailey at all? Just eat the money. They had to take back Kemp anyway, so they didn’t save that much. Reds can’t give up cost-controlled young players for 1 year rentals.

I would agree with criticism of the Jocketty strategy, which the Reds are still trying to dig out of at the moment.

Farmer is probably worth either of the 2 prospects (Downs, Gray) in the Dodger trade. He currently has about 35 ML starts including starts as catcher,1st , 2nd, & 3rd. He’ll be even more valuable next year when the ML goes to a 26 man roster. He’s not a rental.

      • Hanawi

He’s 28 and has less than 200 PAs in the majors. He’s not a rental, but he’s a replacement-level player at best.
